How to tame your tum: Is yours a spare tyre or a stress bulge? Finding out your tummy type is the key to getting a perfect midriff
By DAILY MAIL REPORTER
Get a flat stomach: First you need to identify your tunny type
For many women, getting bikini ready means tackling one dreaded area in particular — our tummies.
Most of us still think the best way to achieve a washboard stomach is by doing hundreds of sit-ups. Not so, says A-list trainer and body guru James Duigan.
James, who sculpts supermodels Elle Macpherson and Rosie Huntingdon-Whiteley among others, insists there is no ‘one size fits all’ method for getting a flat belly.
Instead, he’s identified five key ‘tummy types’, all of which require a different approach to achieve successful toning.
Once you’ve identified your type, you can transform it following James’ tailor-made plan and get that flat tummy fast.
THE SPARE TYRE TUMMYThe spare tyre: This is one of the easiest tummy troubles to eliminate because it's caused by eating the wrong foods and not exercising enough
HOW TO IDENTIFY THIS TYPE
These people are likely to lead sedentary lives, perhaps with jobs that keep them desk-bound. They may also have an emotional attachment to sugary foods.
Luckily, this ‘spare tyre’ is one of the easiest tummy troubles to eliminate as, according to James, it’s caused by eating the wrong foods and not exercising enough.
TYPICAL BAD HABITS
‘If you exercise very little, eat lots of sugar and refined carbohydrates in products like biscuits, cakes and white bread, or rely on starchy carbs like pasta and rice, you probably have an overweight tummy with accompanying fat on your legs and hips,’ says James.
THE STRESS TUMMYStress tummy: These types are typically over-achievers with perfectionist personalities
HOW TO IDENTIFY THIS TYPE
Stressed-tummy types are typically over-achievers with perfectionist personalities. They are usually also susceptible to digestive conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), which can cause bloating and make their tummies look far worse.
‘Stress tummies are easy to spot, as the weight is specific to the front of the midriff and the umbilical area,’ explains James. ‘When stressed, we produce cortisol, a hormone which encourages the body to cling on to fat around the stomach.’
Stressed tummies will also be fairly hard to the touch, rather than wobbly.
TYPICAL BAD HABITS
It’s likely you skip meals, abuse your adrenal system with too much caffeine and grab junk food for convenience.
THE LITTLE POOCHThe little pooch: These women are likely to be busy mums or have demanding careers - hey may even be a gym junkie
HOW TO IDENTIFY THIS TYPE
These women are likely to be busy mums or have demanding careers. ‘They may even be a gym junkie, but stuck in a workout-and-diet rut, perhaps always eating the same foods and doing the same routine at the gym, which keeps you slim but leaves you with a lower belly that spoils your silhouette,’ says James.
TYPICAL BAD HABITS
‘Doing excessive crunches and using gimmicky gym items such as ab-rollers can place a strain on the hip flexors and the lower back, causing the tummy muscles to protrude so your belly sticks out,’ says James.
THE MUMMY TUMMYThe Mummy tummy: Women with these bellies have usually given birth in the past few years, and, being a typical mum, have little time for themselves
HOW TO IDENTIFY THIS TYPE
Women with these tummies have usually given birth in the past few years, and, being a typical mum, have little time for themselves. ‘After giving birth, the uterus drops and is much heavier than it was pre-pregnancy,’ says James. ‘It takes at least six weeks to return to its usual size, so don’t even think about trying to get a flat stomach until after then.
‘You need to re-train your pelvic floor and lower abs to increase blood flow and strengthen loose muscles.’
TYPICAL BAD HABITS
Rushing back to exercise too quickly. ‘I would suggest waiting around two to three months,’ says James. ‘Being stressed about getting rid of your baby weight will only make you cling onto it more. Give yourself a break!’
THE BLOATED TUMMYBloated tummies: These are often flat in the morning, but swell throughout the day with gas or indigestion
HOW TO IDENTIFY THIS TYPE
Bloated tummies are often flat in the morning, but swell throughout the day with gas or indigestion. Bloating affects both slim and overweight women. It is almost always caused by food intolerances and allergies, or sluggish bowels as a result of a poor diet.
TYPICAL BAD HABITS
You eat the same foods and may have done so for a lifetime without realising you’re intolerant to them.
source :dailymailThe blushing bride
American filmmaker Paul Feig (above) was always the bridesmaid and never the bride when it came to his career. At least that's how he saw it. But at 48-years old he's now the blushing bride. The writer, director and producer's latest filmBridesmaidsis a colossal success, having just passed the $130 million mark at the US box office and opening in Australia last week. Feig said he relates to the central character Annie (Kristen Wiig) who's at a slump in her professional and personal life.
``It's the exactly kind of story I do in everything,'' he said.
``This person doesn't know where they belong in the grand scheme of things and that appeals to me because that's how I feel in every single moment of my life, even when things are going right.
``That's how I felt for a lot of my career. I mean, I think I'm making good work and then . . .
``Bridesmaidsis the first thing I've had a big part in that's been successful.''
Success is in the eye of the beholder when it comes to Feig. After meeting Judd Apatow (Knocked Up, The 40-Year Old Virgin) when they were both teenagers and doing stand-up together, the pair created Emmy-nominated teen seriesFreaks and Geeks. It was cancelled before the end of the first season, but not before it launched the careers of its stars James Franco, Seth Rogen, Jason Segel and Linda Cardellini. It also became a cult hit. Feig went on to direct several unsuccessful features such asI Am DavidandUnaccompanied Minors, before making a considerably more successful return to TV directingArrested Development, 30 Rock,Mad Men, Weedsand the US version ofThe Office.
But it was Apatow who coaxed him back to the big screen with a ``fantastic script'' from formerSaturday Night Livestar Kristen Wiig and her writing partner Annie Mumolo.
``WithBridesmaids, we wanted to tell a very relatable and real story that appealed to both women and men,'' he said.
``It was easy to avoid all the pitfalls of the chick flick genre because it's not how any of us thought.
``Those types of films come from people doing things they think women want to see, which is really condescending.
``We knew we wanted to go R-rated with it and we wanted women to see other women on screen who are just as dirty as they are.''
From suffering food poisoning in a bridal shop to dropping the C-bomb, the ensemble cast ofBridesmaidsdon't play clean. Feig said he and executive producer Apatow even shot a PG-version of every scene in case the women at test screenings didn't like it.
``But they loved it,'' he said.
The film follows a rag-tag group ofBridesmaidsas they're led through the pre-wedding rituals of bachelorette parties, bridal showers and dress fittings. Led by Wiig,Bridemaidsalso stars Melissa McCarthy, Jon Hamm, Aussies Rose Byrne and Rebel Wilson (Thank God You're Here, Fat Pizza) in her first big Hollywood role. Wilson plays the sister of Annie's weird room mate,Little Britain's Matt Lucas.
``I'm so happy Rebel's in it, I'm such a big fan of hers,'' said Feig.
``The room mates weren't originally in the script but we knew Matt Lucas wanted to do something in the film but we didn't know where or what.
``Then Rebel came in to audition for one of the bridemaids and she was so hilarious, I turned and said to Judd `she looks like Matt's sister.'
``She's such a great improvisational comedienne and it's so exciting to have her in it.''
With Bridemaids a financial and critical success and talk of a sequel, Feig and Apatow are now working on another comedy starringMad Men's Jon Hamm. Hamm has openly spoken about his appreciation of the skilled and suave Fieg - who's known for wearing a suit to work everyday.
``Other directors are just a bunch of slobs,'' joked Feig, in reference to the director's stereotype of casual dressers.
``I've been doing it for the past 11 years.
``In fact, I went to directMad Menand I showed up on the first day and they thought I was there for casting.''

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER Blown away: Spears and Rihanna wow the crowd with their on-stage kiss which was reminiscent of Spears and Madonna
It has been eight years since Britney Spears and Madonna shocked the world with their steamy onstage kiss on the lips at the MTV awards.
And last night it was a familiar scene as the 29-year-old received a smooch from Rihanna as they performed onstage at the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas.
The 23-year old Barbados born singer planted the wet one on Spears's cheek after they performed her hit single S&M.Remember this? Spears and Rihanna's kiss might have reminded fans of the kiss between Britney and Madonna at the MTV VMA's in 2003
Both women were suitably clad in bondage-style body suits as they took to the stage.
While Spears slipped into a black suit, Rihanna opted for white.
Spears's vigorous work-outs for her up-and-coming Femme Fatale tour proved to be paying off, with the blonde looking incredibly toned in her stage costume.Raunchy start: Rihanna begins her performance sitting on a chair wielding a chain
While Spears lip-synched her parts in the song, her stage antics were nothing less than crowd pleasing and the pair certainly didn't disappoint with their very steamy performance.
Keeping within the bondage theme, Rihanna crawled on her knees while Spears commanded and dominated her with a long chain.Chain reaction: Dominatrix Spears is surrounded by topless male dancers
Bondage: Spears dons an S&M style mask for some of the performance and Rihanna gets provocative on a chair
Spears also donned a bondage-style mask complete with bunny ears as she wrapped her wrists up in chains.
As always Rihanna turned up the heat on stage as she writhed around on the stage floor, while a pair of male hands attempted to grab her from underneath.
The Umbrella singer was also adorned with the kinky metal chains.
Pillow fight! Spears is playful with dancers on the stage as well as with Rihanna
The two women topped off their show with a sexy pillow fight, hitting the male dancers with the bedding until feathers flew in the air.
The kinky performance was certain to make one man happy.Winning team: The crowd couldn't get enough of Spears and Rihanna
Spears's boyfriend Jason Trawick was watching from the sidelines.
The 39-year-old looked like the cat that got the cream as the couple posed for a happy snap backstage.
Spears proved that she was well and truly back to her best as she graced the stage for the second time in the night with rapper and singer/songwriter Nicki Minaj.
Minaj started out the performance with her song Super Bass, before Spears came on to sing her hit Till the World Ends.Feathers fly: The two women enjoy a pillow fight, hitting the male dancers with the bedding until feathers flew
Messing up: They add extra sex appeal to the performance with a raunchy pillow fight
Even though she appeared to be miming while Minaj sang live, Spears put more energy into her dance moves than she has in the past few months.
The act proved to be a successful practice before the duo tour together this summer
Minaj started the song wearing a skin-tight laddered white tank dress over matching leggings and a blue and white striped body suit.
The leotard matched her back-up singers, who acted as duplicates of Minaj, known for her quirky style.Admirer: Spears's boyfriend Jason Trawick looks like the cat that got the cream as the couple pose for a happy snap backstage
In their blonde bobbed wigs they moved with the 26-year-old as she rocked the stage.
But it was Spears who stole the spotlight in a her tight black minidress worn underneath a cropped leather jacket and strappy stilettos.
Enjoying the show was Justin Bieber who was sitting in the crowd with his girlfriend, Selena Gomez.

The young couple were reminiscent of the Justin Timberlake and Spears of yesteryear, as they posed together smiling.
And Selena Gomez affectionately rested her hand on Justin Bieber's leg as they both smiled for the cameras.
The 17-year-old singing sensation looked every bit the pop star in his gold and black tuxedo jacket, while Gomez,18, was the sexy starlet in her slinky black gown. What a show: Ne-yo and rapper Pitball also performed at the awards with a group of scantily-clad dancers
Gravity defying: Cee Lo Green wore a glitzy suit for his performance which saw him and his piano overturn on stage
Beyonce also gave a show-stopping performance, steaming up the stage as she slipped into a risqué bodysuit to perform her new song Run the World (Girls).
During the night there were also performances by the Black Eyed Peas, Ke$ha, Cee Lo Green, Keith Urban and Neil Diamond, who won the Icon Award, among others.
Finalists and winners were determined by their rank on the Billboard charts and their 'social and streaming activity'.
The show was hosted by Ken Jeong who plays Mr. Chow from The Hangover and the up-coming The Hangover II.Yes peas! The Black Eyed Peas took to the stage and Fergie and will.i.am put on an energetic performance

The things all women wish to be...
You can never really know what is going on in the lives of the people around you, can you? The struggles others go through behind closed doors are often unknown to the people around them. I live in a very small community and had the privilege of lending a hand and a little comfort to someone that needed it. In turn she gave me inspiration. She is such an amazing woman, fighting breast cancer and being all the things all women wish to be. Strong, beautiful, inspiring. She is always cheerful and happy in spite of everything. Her love for and relationship with God shines through her. When i first heard what she was going through i kept asking myself what could i do? how can i help her? My skill set is quilting... so, I presented our homeschool group with the idea to make this quilt for her and was pleased that they wanted to take part and participate by writing personal messages to her. I just pray that they do not fade or wash away... i wanted to have the chance to wash it first to see if there were going to be any great catastrophes but i ran out of time. Pray!! pray hard.I could not bring myself to quilt through any of the personal messages so i just outlined each box in pink. Then i spent what felt like forever straight line quilting, of random sizes, the rest of the quilt. It looks beautiful but was a lot more time and work than i anticipated.I also wanted to hand stitch in some things that would be personal to her so i did a pink on pink breast cancer ribbon... a purple on purple cross... and the names of her husband and children, so that they would be with her when she used this quilt no matter when or where. I had not originally intended to make it pink but it turned out that they were her favorite colors. What a perfect coincidence.
She in turn gave me a gift... the gift of gratitude and appreciation (and a few tears) which really meant a lot to me. It is hard to know what people really think when you make something like this and then mail it away...and kids don't necessarily love getting a blanket.
This is ironically Breast Cancer Awareness month. What a perfect time to honor her fight by bringing her this quilt. If someone around you opens that door a little and lets you in consider it a privilege to do what you can....what seems so small and insignificant can mean so much to someone that is struggling. I know you don't know her but if you think of her take a minute and say a little prayer, every single one counts!
I am linking this up to Fabric Tuesday this week, as well as Amylouwho's for sew and tell. Got to Amylouwho's and see what everyone else has made and leave a little comment behind so they know you were there.Signed, Sealed, Delivered

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland wanted to display Lady Gaga's infamous meat dress for its "Women Who Rock: Vision, Passion, Power" exhibit.
Problem is, how do you store and display raw meat for days, weeks, and months without flies, maggots, and the rotting stench of decay?
Gaga Meat Dress on display at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
The answer? Turn the meat outfit into jerky. According to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the dress and shoes worn by Gaga at the 2010 Video Music Awards were cured and dried. The result? A jerky outfit, fit for display (or to eat on a hiking trip).

Milla's paternal family's estate was in Zlopek near Peć in the northwestern part of Metohija Valley, Serbia. Her paternal great-grandfather, Bogić Camić Jovović, was a flag-bearer of the Vasojevići clan and an officer in the guard of King Nicholas I of Montenegro; his wife's name was Milica, after whom Milla was named. Her paternal grandfather, Bogdan Jovović, was a commander in the Pristina military area, and later investigated finances in the military areas of Skopje and Sarajevo, where he uncovered massive gold embezzlement. He was punished for refusing to convict a friend of the crime. Later, the government briefly imprisoned him in Goli otok for refusing to testify. When he feared that he could be arrested again, he escaped to Albania and later moved to Kiev. A different version of the story claims that he was the one who took the gold. Special thanks and credits tobangordailynewsMiddle East: Saudi airstrike hits Yemen World Heritage site
The bombs and missiles of the Saudi-led Arab coalition on Friday killed civilians in Yemen and for the first time hit the historic Old City of the capital. Yemenis search for survivors under the rubble of old buildings allegedly destroyed by an airstrike carried out by the Saudi-led coalition in the old city of Sanaa, Yemen, 12 June 2015. A Saudi-led airstrike killed seven civilians and destroyed historic houses in the old quarter of Sana'a on 12 June, two days ahead of UN-brokered peace talks in Geneva. The air raid was the first in the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Yemen's rebel-held capital since the coalition started its air campaign in March against the Iran-backed Houthi rebels [Credit: EPA/YAHYA ARHAB] Three buildings of a World Heritage site were razed to the ground and a fourth collapsed. UNESCO condemned the act immediately.
''I am profoundly distressed by the loss of human lives as well as by the damage inflicted on one of the world's oldest jewels of Islamic urban landscape,'' UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova said in a statement. Six people were killed, none of whom armed.
Giovanni Puglisi, head of the Italian national commission for UNESCO, noted that ''we are not facing the Islamic State (ISIS) bandits destroying cultural heritage. We are dealing with a Saudi-led coalition that, in reaction to terrorists' acts of war and as part of a scorched earth policy, destroy the cultural heritage of the historic Yemeni city. This is much more serious and worrisome than others due to its unusual nature.'
The Saudi missile came at dawn in the center of the Qasimi area with its thousands of inhabitants. The area has homes over 2,500 years old, about a hundred Arabesque mosques and evocative hammams.
''It was a deafening sound, a horrible whistle,'' said people on the scene. There was no blast, however, and the disaster could have been much worse. The missile did not explode, and thus brought down only the buildings it directly hit.The number of casualties is also very low: six dead (four women and two men buried under the rubble). On Thursday, a Saudi bomb hit a bus, burning over 20 people alive.
UNESCO had already in May spoken out about the ''serious damage'' caused by the bombing of the Old City in Sanaa and called on those involved in the conflict not to involve Yemen's cultural heritage in the fighting.
The appeal does not seem to have influenced Riyadh's operations since the beginning of the Saudi-led (Sunni) coalition actions against Shia Houthi rebels on March 26.
Saudi Arabia aims to halt the advance of the Houthi rebels, who since September 24, 2014 have controlled the capital and used it as a base to achieve military victories across large areas of the north, west and center of the country.
In the south the rebels had begun to get the upper hand and at this point Riyadh - where Yemeni president Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi has taken refuge - began its airstrikes.
In just over two months, over a thousand civilians including 234 children have died under the bombs, and a million people have been forced to flee their homes.

Near East: Historic Armenian church to be restored
The two-story Germüş Church in the eastern province of Şanlıurfa has survived for centuries. Now, it will become a tourist attraction within the scope of the Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP) Action Plan. The church is estimated to have been built in the beginning
of the 19th century [Credit: AA]The church is located in the Dağeteği neighborhood on the outskirts of the Germüş Mountains, 10 kilometers away from the city center. But since it does not have an inscription, the exact date of its establishment is unknown.
Estimated to have been built with cut stones in the beginning of the 19th century, the church has three lancet windows at the entrance.
The historic church, which has partly lost some of its features during previous restorations done, is located close to Göbeklitepe, one of the world’s oldest temples located in the city.
Şanlıurfa Regional Tourist Guides Chamber Chairman Kamil Türkmen said that the city had recently gained momentum in tourism. He said that foreign tourists came to the region especially for Göbeklitepe and also visited the Germüş Church.
Türkmen said that Armenians lived in the Germüş village during the Ottoman era and that the area was a protected site.
The neglected interior of the church [Credit: AA] “The church draws attention mostly from foreign tourists. They come here but the church is not completely ready. This is why it should be restored as soon as possible,” he said.
Culture and Tourism Deputy Director Aydın Arslan said that work had been initiated for the church to promote its tourism, adding, “The surveying, restitution and restoration projects have been finished. The restoration project was included in the GAP Action Plan and will start in the coming days. We will also carry out archaeological work in the area.”
The former village head of the neighborhood, 85-year-old Mansur Özdemir, said that they had been trying to protect the church and structures in the vicinity but treasure hunters had done excavations and damaged the church. He said some Armenian families used to live in the region in the past, and later moved to their relatives in Syria.
Özdemir said that his father told about the stories from the World War I and explained:
“In the final years of the Ottoman state, young people from neighboring villages joined the war and only old people and women remained in the houses. Since the Armenians did not join the war, they continued living here. But the French and Russians took advantage of this and made them massacre people in the neighboring villages. When they heard our soldiers were returning, they left their houses and escaped the village.”

But he said the high number of people still recorded as missing could be a reflection of the widespread breakdown of communication systems in the city.

Rome's famed 2000-year-old pyramid has been restored to its gleaming white ancient glory following a two-million-euro project. The Rome Pyramid after restoration
[Credit: ANSAmed]The Egyptian-style pyramid-shaped tomb of Gaius Cestius, an Augustan era general, reopened to the public this week following an extensive restoration initiated in March 2013. Japanese fashion mogul Yuzo Yagi who funded the project said "It is extraordinary to return it to the white city like [it was] two thousand years ago. It was a great job with an incredible team led by two women", referring to Rita Paris and Maria Grazia Filetici, Italy's archaeological superintendency directors who oversaw the project.
The 120 foot-high pyramid, according to Paris, was constructed in 330 days, made of white Carrara marble. The 21st century restoration of the 2000-year-old tomb took a cumulative 327 days, 75 days less than projected.
Yagi donated two million euros to the innovative internal and external restoration that required a mix of traditional and non-tradition conservation in areas such as vegetation removal, marble facade protection, marble panel stabilization and damage prevention, and a handicap-accessible entrance ramp.
The restoration was much needed after centuries of wear and tear, which included, as Paris detailed, the tomb's incorporation into the 3rd century AD walls, looting in the Middle Ages, mid-17th century restoration, and use as a meeting spot in the 19th century.
Present at the invitation-only inauguration was Umberto Vattani, president of the Italy-Japan Foundation, cultural and foreign affairs undersecretaries Francesca Barracciu and Benedetto Della Vedova, Rome Cultural Heritage superintendent Francesco Prosperetti, and Rome Mayor Ignazio Marino.
Barracciu said that the restoration was "a brilliant best practice that strengthens our belief that the public and private collaboration is a way to go again with more determination. And since last July's Art Bonus, we are very confident ".
When asked if Yagi would finance future heritage projects in Italy, the fashion mogul said "we have a long list of aid to Japan, for the tsunami-affected areas. But I would be happy to return in the coming years".

Mr Donald Duck
At now, the farmers have a lot of interest to breeding of a ducks and chickens. From one duck in the spring and summer can get up to 100 eggs and grow them out to 50 or more ducks with the final live weight about 2 kg. With proper selection of a ducks for sale it's will be very profitable business, especially if in the presence have a small pond near the backyard or garden.
Some poultry farmers have the unflattering opinions about ducks: because this bird seems to be too gluttonous, but this is false. Ducks eat a lot of because fast grow. In the two months are ready for slaughter. If you have the pond with duckweed and other aquatic vegetation, the total cost of the breeding ducks will exactly cheapest business. Anyway, a chickens for sale, a chicken eggs is a fundamental element of the farmers profit. If the ranch located in a warm place, then you can fatten ducks throughout the year in small batches, to always have fresh meat to the table.
Before you buy ducks in online should consult with experienced breeders about the seller. Another product, which gives a duck — feather and down. From them make soft fluffy pillows, light and warm quilts, quilted clothing. Also, started making original hats for women, it's very fashionable.

There are few people who haven't heard of Bethany Hamilton. She was the 13-year-old amateur professional surfer who had her arm bitten off by 4.3 m tiger shark while surfing off the coast of Hawaii. She lost 60 per cent of her blood, but miraculously survived and returned to the world of professional surfing a champion. Her inspirational tale is the subject ofSoul Surfer; a film that follows her personal struggle to overcome her debilitating injury.
Directed by Sean McNamara (Raise Your Voice, Bratz), this is notJawsmeetsBlue Crush, but rather a Disney-esque version of events. Sure, this is a fairytale, so heart warming sentiments and inspirational monologues are to be expected. But somewhere between lines like “love is bigger than any tidal wave or fear” the film succumbs to family movie cheesiness. Written, produced and directed by McNamara,Soul Surferis elevated by a trio of strong performances from AnnaSophia Robb as Bethany and Dennis Quaid and Helen Hunt as her parents. Robb is beyond convincing and beautifully balances Bethany's vulnerability and inner-strength. Quaid and Hunt are fantastic as the supportive and highly likable parents. Their love for each other and their family has a tangible presence and one of the best scenes is when the Hollywood veterans take to the waves for a surfing/bonding session. Plus, Hunt is undoubtedly one of the most naturally beautiful women in the bizz. At 47 she rocks a bikini and in close-ups it’s clear to see she hasn’t had a spot of work done; she’s aging gracefully and looking all the better for it.
Also good is Jack Nicholson's daughter Lorraine Nicholson as Bethany's best friend Alana Blanchard and formerHerculesstar Kevin Sorbo in a meaty role as her dad Holt Blanchard. The Blanchard’s were close friends of the Hamilton family and responsible for saving Bethany's life that day when they dragged her to shore and used a leg rope as a tourniquet. These days Alana is better known for having thebest assin international surfing.Based on Bethany's autobiography of the same name, the surfer has always attributed God and her faith for getting her through the traumatic ideal and back on the board. The Christian elements of Bethany's life are certainly not skipped over. In fact, they're perhaps covered too extensively and the powerful Christian themes are likely to ostracise some viewers. American Idol winner Carrie Underwood's performance as a Christian councillor doesn't help. Her big screen debut is so terrible, you would be happy to throw yourself into the mouth of a tiger shark to escape her wooden and preachy portrayal. Her sense of superiority and righteousness would be excruciating enough, but Underwood sports heavy makeup throughout the film which seems especially ridiculous when she's working in the slums of Indonesian in the aftermath of the Boxing Day tsunami. A Christian missionary with more eye shadow than Hedwig from the Angry Inch strips any sort of believability from the situation.
Despite its shortcomings,Soul Surferisn't a wipe out. It's an inspirational, family-friendly film that might over-do the cheese, but that doesn't mean it can't please.
Soul Surferis out Thursday, May 26.VIA One thumb up
Dior in the Soviet Union (Moscow City)
As I'm sewing my 1950's Violet Wiggle Dress it reminded me of the set of photographs I once saw on the LIFE archives. A few of you know I've been to Russia a few times, once when I was 15 with my very adventurous father (Russia was his type of vacation) and then after high school with the intent to study Russian History. To make a long story short I ended up being very homesick and my stay was brief. Still, it's one of my favorite places in the world and I've had the privilege to see. Since then I love learning about Russian history, the good and the bad, and seeing it through art and photography are one of my favorite things to do.
Dior in Moscow
In 1959 the Soviet Union decided to get with the times and host some fashion shows. Does Yves Saint Laurent's Russian Collection ring a bell? Dior decided to bring their "New Look" straight to the people at GUM, which is like Russia's version of Galleria, located directly in Red Square. Back then it had more sensible shops for the working comrades, today it hosts over 200 luxury brands like Dior.
Red Square in Soviet Union
Dior had it their mind just to walk with the people at GUM, who by their expressions seemed horrified and curious all at the same time.
I'm kind of loving the floral dresses that nearly all of the women are wearing. Kind of wish I stuck around Moscow for a few days more just to do some vintage shopping. Wait while I add it to my bucket list.
Despite loving Dior... Well because it's Dior...
The passing-out ball: End-of-year celebrations prove a little TOO much for some Cambridge students
By RICHARD HARTLEY-PARKINSON The morning after: Walking seems to have got too much for the girl in the red dress, while the chap on the right seems to be feeling a little warm after a night of partying
They've finished their exams, they're about to venture into the big wide world, and they've just spent hundreds on the hottest night in town.
So no wonder it all proved a bit too much for some Cambridge University students, staggering home after partying all night to celebrate the end of term.
Even at £200 for a couple, and on top of the cost of a new ball gown and tails, revellers at the Trinity May Ball were far from reserved - perhaps savouring their final carefree days of student life.
Bleary-eyed after a night of partying, as the sun rose the youngsters carried on the celebration with drunken punt rides on the River Cam or breakfast in college gardens.Relaxed: As the sun rose, students who had paced themselves continued to drink bubbly as the sun rose
The ball is a tradition dating back 145 years that is among the largest events in the Cambridge student social calendar and is as famous for the morning after events as the big night itself.
After dinner and dancing the night of official events was brought to a close with a spectacular fireworks display, but for some it was a sign that the night was still young. The morning after the night before: These students look like they're up for continuing for some time with two bottles of Pimms
One guest said: 'The champagne was flowing, but if you want to be among the survivors the next day, you learn to pace yourself.'
The Trinity May Ball is normally held on the first Monday of May Week - the traditional end of term at Cambridge University.
This year, however, it took place in June and is one of a series of balls taking place across the campus.
The ball has continued every year since 1866 and has only had two breaks. Once in 1910 when King Edward VII died and again during the Second World War from 1939 to 1945.Class, style and some high jinx: One couple looks like they've stepped out of a Dickens novel as they make their way home while another share a laugh with friends
The only trouble that was reported in the town was three calls from residents who complained to Cambridge City Council over excess noise.
Robert Osbourn, the council's environmental protection team leader, told the Cambridge News that some complaints were inevitable.
He said: 'You are never going to be able to guarantee that nobody hears anything.'
The students also do their bit for charity. With 17 balls and major events being held in Cambridge this academic year, the total funds from all college May Balls is likely to reach tens of thousands of pounds.Having a punt: These party goers decide to have a more leisurely ride along the River Cam with cups of coffee
Home time: Students file out of the Trinity May Ball in an orderly manner
Friendships made: Students lie on the lawns in front of King's College as the sun rises over the spires of Cambridge
Glamour: A group of women look as splendid as they did the night before as they set off home in their ball gowns
It's a busy day for punters in Cambridge with hundreds of students to transport along the Cam
