Thrifty Fashion!!! Sew and Tell
about 2 weeks ago there was a big neighborhood yard sale. We are a pretty young neighborhood, but luckily some of the moms of the ladies who live here came and came with goodies!!! I found all of these vintage sheets and pillowcases all at one house. Pretty right?
Then this week i was blogging around, whilst hanging out with my couch, and i found this idea for a nightgown with a tutorial. I modified the tutorials a little and came up with this for Avery. The bottom of the pillowcase with this scalloped detail is my favorite part. Those little raspberries on the fabric are so cute!
Sewing clothing is not my strong suit. With quilting i know all the steps to follow and what order to do them in...with clothes i get a little turned around , get stuck and then ask myself how am i supposed to do this? Since this is for sleeping i think it will do. The true test will be if she wears it for more than one night!!
**since this is the only significant sewing i have done in a really long while i am going to go ahead and link this up to this weeks edition of sew and tell at Amylouwho's. Say hello to all the ladies who made something wonderful this week**Sew mama sew giveaway time!!

If you are a new visitor here, welcome! For my giveaway this time around I have a pretty little charm pack of "Ruby" , the latest fabric collection by Bonnie and Camille for Moda. This collection is oh so gorgeous and I really need to get some myself now that I have seen it in person to touch and see the lovely colour palette they have used.Along with the handmade gift making that is going on in my sewing attic lately I have whipped up a sweet little birdie pincushion and a matching needlebook. The Birdie pincushion was made using this free tutorial here and is really so easy and satisfying to make. I think I will be making more of these in the near future. The needle book cover is made up of tiny little 1" squares of shabby chic fabrics with some coordinating wool felt pages inside taken from my precious stash of Heather Bailey felts. In order to be in to win this wee collection of pretty sewing supplies just leave me a comment sharing one or more of your handmade gifts for this holiday season or perhaps a link to your favourite tutorial. This giveaway will be left open till 16th December when a winner will be drawn randomly.Overseas comments are most welcome and also please make sure I can contact you via email :-)Fabric necklaces
So, instead of ruffly aprons for the Easter baskets, I went with these necklaces, they took way less time than the aprons would have and I have a list too huge to tackle for all my upcoming shows. The tutorial I found onWhat did she do today she has a whole list of fun tutorials, here's the link directly to the fabric necklace tutorial. It was super quick, I think it took me about an hour to whip up all three of these. The best part was that it was sneaky crafting which made it kindof more exciting, my husband has been home today and I guess today was dubbed game day. So him and the kids were playing games and I was sneakily finishing up Easter basket gifts :) And now I declare that I am done! Finally Proof
When i got home from my sisters this week i was feeling especially motivated to get some sewing done. Perhaps the old adage, "absence makes the heart grow fonder", applies to my sewing machine too! I went right to work finishing this baby blanket i had started with a honey bun of Hello Betty fabric.i considered all sorts of ideas for how i would quilt it but in the end i just went with my old standby... straight line quilting. It is fast and rather uncomplicated. Every row of stitching is about 2 inches apart. I got the binding on and sewn last night and this morning, my favorite part. It is a baby gift for a neighbor, so i hope she will like it.I did not want to buy more fabric to back it and bind it so i went to the trusty stash closet to see what i could find, and that closet sure did not let me down. I, at some point or another, had bought a baby curtain on clearance in the hope that someday i would be able to use it for backing since it was so big. And that is precisely what i did. These elephants were just too cute to resist and i love them with the fabric of the quilt.
Now this last shot is just to show that i am already working on other things...trying to be real with myself about the projects i have started and seeing if i can just go ahead and finish them from where they are. Sometimes i think i am too ambitious with what i want to do....so i start a lot of things but don't really get many them finished. Craft ADD anyone?
**It is time for me to get back on the sew and tell wagon. So i am going to go ahead and link this up to amylouwho's to share with the ladies there. take a minute and go check out what everyone else has made this week. I don't know about anyone else but i feel productive, finally.**A Quilt of Love
I have been planning and working on this Recess quilt (this link is not where i bought the fabric but shows it off the best) for some time now. I planned it before i even knew my wonderful friend Dee was having a baby girl. I was hoping because i thought that this would be perfect for a girl and it was the fabric i had my heart set on.The sun was shining on it the day i finished so i was able to get some good shots of it. The quilting shows up really well in this light. This was the first time i used warm and natural batting and i think i am hooked. It made so much of a difference and quilted nicer than many of my other quilts.Chris was doing what i wanted to be doing with it here(which i think is what E tried to do when he helped his momma open the pacpkage)...i wanted to wrap myself in it and keep it, but alas it had a better home. SO off to the post office i went. I know Dee loves it and that it will be loved there for many years to come.I WON! and other stuff...
My friend Becky is starting this new site called Patchwork Posse, every month there are new sewing related projects and lots of fun stuff. So, today I won a membership! YAY! Go check it out, I am excited about it, I think she has come up with a great idea and I am excited that I get to be a part of it!
In other news: I know some of you have probably already seen it, but I did a pattern review for Sew Mama Sew!
Here's the link! Also, Dana from MADE won a package of things from me awhile back and she repurposed a towel I sent her into these adorable aprons she made for her kids! She is the queen of repurposing I tell you! So cute!
I hope you all had a Happy New Year!

FILIPPA KThe bride DID wear Chanel: The Lagerfeld dress Lily Allen wore to the reception
By LAUREN PAXMAN Evening gown: Lily Allen admires Lagerfeld's sketch and tries on her custom-designed Chanel dress, which she wore to the wedding reception
While Kate Middleton kept us guessing over her choice of wedding dress designer, Lily Allen's decision was all but confirmed months ago.
The singer hinted that Lagerfeld would be designing her gown while posing with him at Chanel's Paris Fashion Week show in March... and then confused everyone by wearing a Delphine Manivet dress down the aisle instead.
But there is a very logical explanation - like the Duchess of Cambridge, Lily had two wedding outfits, one for the ceremony and one for the reception.
The 26-year-old revealed all on her Twitter page after Lagerfeld uploaded an image of Lily wearing the white dress he had designed, along with a sketch of his creation.
The images were accompanied by a caption explaining that they were taken by Benoît Peverelli at a fitting in Chanel's Paris headquarters, 31 rue Cambon.
Fashion blogger Laura LaRue tweeted a link to Lagerfeld's picture saying: 'Confused? Me too.'Radiant bride: Lily, with husband Sam Cooper, in the Delphine Manivet dress she wore to her wedding ceremony, which also featured transparent sleeves and detailing on the bottom of the skirt and was designed to accommodate her baby bump
Lily wrote straight back, explaining: 'I wore my BEAUTIFUL Chanel dress to our reception.'
There are many similarities between the two dresses. Both had a transparent layer which went right up to the bride's neck.
The Delphine Manivet gown was lacy, and had a sweetheart neckline underneath, while the Chanel number featured beautiful floaty sleeves that were puffy to the elbow and then tight to the wrist.
It also had intricate embroidery on the bustier, and looks like it was semi-transparent below that.
Both gowns had additional detailing on the bottom half of the big skirts.
Manivet has revealed that her gown was intentionally designed to be roomy as Lily has been trying for a baby since January.
The singer's husband, Sam Cooper, announced his wife was four months pregnant on their wedding day - to gasps of joy from his guests.
We imagine there were similar exclamations of affectionate surprise when they laid eyes on the radiant bride in each of her stunning gowns.
