Crowds: A melee ensued when Justin Bieber came outside to greet fans during a publicity event in New York
These pictures show the dramatic scenes as an undercover NYPD cop was allegedly taken out by one of Justin Bieber's own bodyguards.
The undercover policeman was mistaken for a crazed fan trying to attack the teenage superstar in a bizarre melee that resulted in one of Bieber's own security guards being issued with a summons.
The pint-sized singer was at an event at Macy's department store in New York when the cop was allegedly grabbed by a bodyguard as screaming teenage girls surged towards the 17-year-old.

The plain-clothed officer stepped in to protect the Canadian heartthrob from the crowd surge when an overprotective Bieber bodyguard allegedly grabbed him and tried to pull him away from the boy.
Bieber was reportedly shaken up by the incident, which saw the bodyguard issued a summons for disorderly conduct.

Initial reports from the scene had suggested that a man had jumped the barricades, attacking Bieber and knocking him to the ground - but police have since denied that he was touched or hurt.
‘It was a momentary well-intentioned misunderstanding and the event went well,’ a spokesman for Bieber told the New York Post. ‘He’s completely fine and has no injuries.’
A witness said the 17-year-old Canadian singer shouted: 'What? What?' as the incident happened, before rushing back into the store and not talking to waiting reporters.

Dozens of fans had camped out in front of the famous store for two days to get the opportunity to meet their idol, who was doing a personal appearance to launch his new fragrance Someday.
Another witness told the New York Daily News that people who had been waiting for hours got too excited and began pushing the barrier down, meaning he did not even get time to wave at his fans.
Bieber tweeted this evening: ‘today went well at macy's.. the fans were AMAZING, thanks to all the fans who came out to support it was a breath of fresh air :)’
He had appeared on The View on Thursday morning and tweeted before his Macy’s appearance: 'Gonna chill..grab a bit..then see everyone at MACY's for the #SOMEDAY launch. LEGGO!!'

Bieber's fans, known as 'Beliebers', rallied to support the singer after the incident, on the initial understanding that somebody had tried to attack him.
One young lady was so overcome by the incident that she had to be carried away by police officers.
Bieber has had other security scares including at an event in 2009 at the Roosevelt Field Mall that was cancelled after thousands of fans mobbed the shopping centre.
He tweeted to his followers to leave the mall because police threatened to arrest out of control fans.

Remember me? Cameron Diaz, in an itty bitty mini-dress, greets ex Justin Timberlake with a kiss on the red carpet
    By CHRIS JOHNSON
©Cheeky one: Cameron Diaz shares a smooch with ex-boyfriend and co-star Justin Timberlake as they arrive for the New York premiere of their new movie Bad Teacher tonight in New York
For the past week Cameron Diaz - and her legs - have been shipped around Europe and Russia promoting her new movie, Bad Teacher.
But the 38-year-old actress was finally united with her ex-boyfriend and co-star Justin Timberlake as the pair attended the New York premiere.
The couple dated for three years before splitting five years ago - and clearly the film's promoters were holding Timberlake back for the U.S. unveiling.
And of course, the one-time couple did not disappoint, duly sharing a kiss on the red carpet - in view of the army of flashbulbs.
©Remember these? Cameron was wearing a very short dress by Chanel, complete with a see-through top section, as she dangled her long legs in front of Justin
Diaz, who is dating baseball player A-Rod, put her famous legs on show in an impossibly short Chanel knit dress, complete with a see-through top section which revealed a black bra underneath.
Meanwhile, 30-year-old Timberlake - who is single following his split from Jessica Biel - opted for a dapper black suit.
Cameron plays a flesh-flashing, booze-guzzling, pot-smoking, foul-mouthed teacher in the comedy, which was released in the UK last week and will hit U.S. cinemas on Friday.
©Cast call: From left to right, director Jake Kasdan, Timberlake, Diaz, Jason Segel, Punch, and Phyllis Smith
Her character, seventh grade teacher Elizabeth Halsey, tries to get out of the classroom for good by wooing a rich substitute teacher, played by her ex Timberlake.
Cameron was today on a promotional blitz in New York, stepping out in no less than four different outfits in total.
This morning she told breakfast show Good Morning America that working with her ex-boyfriend Timberlake on Bad Teacher was easy because they 'know their boundaries'.
©Changing styles: The actress has donned four outfits today, seen left arriving for an appearance on GMA, before slipping into two different ensembles at the The Late Show with David Letterman and, R, tonight
    ©

She said Timberlake was: 'A blessing, a privilege that wasn't lost on either of us. He's so funny and talented,' she gushed.
When asked if the sex scenes were awkward she added: 'It was easier because the boundaries were clear. Like if it's somebody you don't know you are kind of going 'mmm maybe' but you know, 'no', in this instance we're like 'we already did that',' she giggled.
The actress also admitted that she was nicknamed 'the intestinator' by staff on the set because she was always eating.
©Acting up: Timberlake stands on a chair as he poses for photographers at the event, which was held at New York's Ziegfeld Theatre
'I decided my character was a consumer, she's always taking taking taking so I decided that in every scene I would be eating, drinking or chewing on something,' said the There's Something About Mary star.
'So the whole film I was eating, all the worst foods too - corn dogs and fried chicken it was really just an excuse to eat all the bad foods.
'Donuts and breakfast sandwiches. The prop guys called me the intestinator,' she laughed.

©I am ready for my close up: Comedian 'Weird Al' Yankovic also made an appearance to join in with the fun
Wearing a super-short mini skirt Diaz noted that she usually leads a healthy lifestyle to stay slim.
'Because I love to do active things in my lifestyle, if I don't take care of my body, if I'm not strong then I can't bring those things into my life and those are the things that truly make me happy and my happiness is what really makes me who I am.
'So I'm constantly trying to stay strong so that I can do anything I want at any time.'

The New York City Heavy Music Coallition
©On Saturday, June 18, 2011, history was written at Webster Hall (The Ritz) at the No Remission "Through Blackened Skies" record release show. When we arrived at the venue at 4 o'clock to conduct interviews for an upcoming DVD that showcases the state of the New York City Heavy Music scene, the sun was shining and everyone was really pumped about this very special night for the entire community. After chatting with some of the bands and with some key figures from the scene, it was time for Left In Ruins to do what they do best: deliver a crushing display of brutal Metal filled of very technical guitar parts and positive energy!
After grabbing a few beers and greeting the crowd, the surprise of the night took center stage. Arcane Malevolence performed a highly energetic set and got the pit initiated for the storm that was about to unravel at Webster Hall. After a few minutes of peace inside the pit, Alekhine's Gun melted everyone's faces with their furious flavor of Heavy Metal! Goddamn, these guys are getting good and sounding tighter and tighter. The sense of unity that this band possesses is a message that is transmitted to the pit army that stands strong whenever they step on a stage.
Closing this historical night was No Remission who presented New York City with their brand new album titled "Through Blackened Skies" (Click to read our album review), we had personally seen this band live and they impressed the hell out of our ears. The band not only possesses great stage presence and highly technical songs, but they play each song with balls and make the pit army lose their minds!
At the end of the night the dance floor had a lot of blood, sweat and tears, and a lot of happy people! What is going in New York City right now with Heavy Music is blood rushing and extremely exciting. We can't wait to see the DVD which will include every bands performance and plenty of interviews! Stay tuned horns up throwers!

South Asia: Looted Indian statue recovered
A stolen bronze Indian religious relic worth an estimated $1 million was recovered Wednesday by federal customs agents as part of a continuing investigation into a former New York-based art dealer.

The dealer, Subhash Kapoor, is now awaiting trial in India for allegedly looting artifacts worth tens of millions of dollars.

Mr. Kapoor operated a now-defunct gallery on the Upper East Side called Art of the Past. Prosecutors allege that between 1995 and 2012 he illegally imported and sold stolen antiquities from India, Afghanistan, Pakistan and elsewhere, often using forged documents to pass the items off as legitimate.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations unit and the Manhattan district attorney’s office have together recovered more than 2,500 artifacts worth more than $100 million from the gallery and storage facilities in and around New York City.

Kenneth J. Kaplan, a lawyer in New York representing Mr. Kapoor, declined to comment Wednesday, but said his client had asserted his innocence both to him and to his counsel in India. Mr. Kapoor has not yet entered a plea in India, according to a spokeswoman for Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr.

The item recovered this week is a Chola-period bronze representing a Tamil poet and saint that dates to the 11th or 12th centuries, according to Brenton Easter, a special agent with Homeland Security Investigations. The statue, which stands nearly two feet tall and weighs more than 80 pounds, was allegedly looted about a decade ago from a temple in a village in the southeastern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

The theft of the figure was “completely devastating” to the villagers, Mr. Easter said on Wednesday afternoon, as he stood by the open door of the van containing the relic parked on East 91st Street near Park Avenue. The item was smuggled into the U.S. labeled as a handicraft, and then offered for sale at Mr. Kapoor’s gallery on Madison Avenue.

In recent months some institutions that purchased objects from Mr. Kapoor have surrendered the items to Homeland Security Investigations. They include the Honolulu Museum of Art and the Peabody Essex Museum in Massachusetts.

In a statement, Honolulu Museum Director Stephan Jost said in April that “clearly the museum could have done better” with its past vetting of objects. Dan L. Monroe, the Peabody Essex Museum director, said in a statement that month that the institution has undertaken “a rigorous internal assessment of its collection and is working in full cooperation with the Department of Homeland Security.”

This time around, the stolen object was voluntarily surrendered by an anonymous collector who had been contacted by investigators about the piece. Officials said the buyer was considered a victim because the statue was accompanied by a false provenance, or ownership history, that predated its theft.

“We commend this collector for his conscious decision to return this stolen idol,” said Raymond R. Parmer, Jr., special agent in charge of HSI New York. “We hope that other collectors, institutions and museums will continue to partner with HSI, and to see this surrender as a successful way to move forward when dealing with artifacts that might be of concern.”

The agency has recovered at least six other sacred Chola bronzes that it anticipates repatriating to the Indian government.

In April, the Manhattan district attorney’s office filed papers in New York State Supreme Court seeking the forfeiture of 2,622 items seized from the gallery and storage units in Manhattan, Queens and Long Island. The items were worth $107 million, according to the summons. Among them: a statue from India valued at $15 million, a large bronze statue from Cambodia or Thailand worth $5 million and a large standing Buddha from North India estimated at $7.5 million.

According to the April summons, Mr. Kapoor and his gallery manager, Aaron Freedman, “engaged in a common plan and scheme to illegally obtain and sell stolen items of art and conceal or disguise the nature, source and ownership of the illegally obtained property.”

Mr. Freedman pleaded guilty in December 2013 to five counts of criminal possession of stolen property and one count of conspiracy, according to the summons. Prosecutors said the antiquities were forfeitable from Mr. Kapoor and his gallery as proceeds and/or instrumentalities of crime.

He may voice a lithe Kung Fu expert in his latest movie, but Jack Black was looking a little out of shape as he headed through security at LAX airport last night.
The 41-year-old comic actor held up his hands and stood in front of the body scanner, in a pose which revealed his rather rotund figure.
And when he turned round, he showed the back of his T-shirt emblazoned with the slogan reading 'Pie 'N Burger,' revealing his fondness for the fatty foods.

  • North America: NY authorities seek custody of stolen artifacts worth over $100 million

North America: NY authorities seek custody of stolen artifacts worth over $100 million
The Manhattan district attorney’s office on Tuesday made public the largest antiquities seizure in American history and asked a judge to grant it custody of a startling 2,622 artifacts recovered from storage rooms affiliated with an imprisoned Madison Avenue art dealer.

NY authorities seek custody of stolen artifacts worth over $100 million
The recovered artifacts are from India and other places in southern
Asia. Prosecutors said the dealer had cached the items in an
assortment of hideaways in Manhattan and Queens
[Credit: Michael Kirby Smith/The New York Times]

The artifacts, valued by the authorities at $107.6 million, were described in papers filed in State Supreme Court in Manhattan as having been looted from India and other places in southern Asia and smuggled into the United States by the dealer, Subhash Kapoor.

In their complaint, prosecutors said Mr. Kapoor, 65, had cached the items in an assortment of hideaways in Manhattan and Queens. They were confiscated during raids that began in 2012 and continued through last year.

The seized items included bronze and stone statues of Hindu deities, many of them ancient masterworks worth several million dollars each.

The authorities said their goal in gaining custody of the items was to set in motion the return of the stolen objects to India and their other countries of origin. Officials also hope to prosecute Mr. Kapoor, an American citizen, in the United States. Currently he is awaiting trial in India on charges of plundering archaeological sites and conspiring with black market traders to send illicit artifacts overseas. American officials are planning to extradite him after his case is settled.

Mr. Kapoor, whose defunct gallery, Art of the Past, sold hundreds of objects to prominent American museums and collectors, has denied any wrongdoing.

“At the present time we are at a distinct disadvantage because Mr. Kapoor is in an Indian jail and all the facts in this matter are known by him,” said Kenneth J. Kaplan, a lawyer for Mr. Kapoor. Manhattan prosecutors declined to comment on the case.

Since an initial raid on Mr. Kapoor’s gallery by Homeland Security Investigations agents in 2012, three of his associates have agreed to criminal penalties in exchange for cooperating with investigators, according to officials and lawyers. The case, which now extends to four continents and is being pursued in conjunction with Indian officials, has been named Operation Hidden Idol.

Mr. Kapoor’s office manager, Aaron M. Freedman, 43, of Princeton, N.J., pleaded guilty in 2013 to six counts of criminal possession of stolen property valued at $35 million and, according to his lawyer, helped officials track down some of Mr. Kapoor’s hidden storage locations.

In addition, Mr. Kapoor’s sister, Sushma Sareen, a 61-year-old Queens resident, pleaded guilty in November to a misdemeanor charge of obstructing justice and was sentenced to conditional release. In 2013, she had been charged with receiving and possessing several million dollars’ worth of ancient bronze statues, which remain missing. She is also cooperating, according to investigators.

Federal authorities have identified 18 American museums as owning a total of 500 items sold or donated by Mr. Kapoor. Several museums have recently turned in objects judged to be illicit, while others have said they are satisfied that their Kapoor items were legally acquired.

Not only will the music be cranked and the drink specials will be poured to the masses, but the bands founder and front-man Mr. Sal Abruscato (Life of Agony) will be there to meet his fans. Here is the Official press release:
©"A PALE HORSE NAMED DEATH's debut album "And Hell Will Follow Me" is set to be released June 14th on SPV/Steamhammer. To celebrate the release of the album, the band will be hosting an exclusive listening party at Idle Hands Bar in New York, NY. Idle Hands is located at 25 Avenue B. The party is open to the public and members of APHND will of course be in attendance. Don't miss what is sure to be a killer event with drink specials and your chance to hear the new album before it hits stores."
    Here is the artist bio:
"A PALE HORSE NAMED DEATH is the brainchild of Brooklyn, NY native Sal Abruscato, and sounds like Alice in Chains mysteriously sneaking up behind Type O Negative with a butcher knife while being filmed for a future episode of "Law & Order". Critical acclaim has been quick upon the announcement of the album's June release.
Sal's partner in crime on "And Hell Will Follow Me" is Matt Brown, sound engineer extraordinaire and guitarist of fellow NY band SEVENTH VOID. "The chemistry between me and Matt is unique and flawless very rare in today's music. We are the murdering evil version of Lennon and McCartney." says Abruscato.
Brown adds, "Sal asked me if I would help to take these songs to the next level. I took on this project for my friend, to find some closure in rough times. The music is just an extension of our friendship and our passion for creativity."
©The album artwork was done by Sam Shearon aka Mr. Sam, who has previously done work for Rob Zombie, Fear Factory and Cradle of Filth to name a few, and features a 20 page booklet with artwork for each individual song. Additionally, the Double LP version will feature a never before heard bonus track called "Pick Up Truck".
To top that all off, Life of Agony's Keith Caputo lent background vocals to four tracks and Lou Reed's saxophonist Ulrich Krieger guests on "Die Alone". Bobby Hambel from Biohazard - who also plays with the band live - played the guitar leads on three tunes.
APHND is also a force to be reckoned with live, with shows and festivals already planned in both the U.S. and Europe. Alongside Sal, Matt and Bobby, the live line-up places Type O and Seventh Void drummer Johnny Kelly behind the kit, and Eric Morgan on bass.
"This is my pinnacle creation, the best album I have ever done." commented Sal. And after listening, most people are tending to agree."

Bono's little girl steps out of her father's shadow at Cannes... but has co-star Sean Penn by her side for support
    By JESSICA SATHERLEY
©Co-stars: Sean Penn looked after his family friend and co-star Eve Hewson on the red carpet at Cannes, who is the daughter of U2 frontman Bono
Her famous father is used to the spotlight, but last night it was the U2 frontman’s daughter’s turn to steal the limelight at Cannes.
Eve Hewson showed that she’s no shrinking violet by strutting down the red carpet in a stunning black and pink Chanel ensemble for the film premiere of This Must Be The Place.
The 19-year-old stars in the crime thriller alongside her father’s pal Sean Penn and Talking Heads singer David Byrne.
©Cool and composed: The 19-year-old actress appeared relaxed in front of the press and photographers at the premiere of This Must Be The Place, by director Paolo Sorrentino
And Penn made sure to act as a protective father figure for Eve on the red carpet by staying close by her side throughout the night, as her parents didn't attend the event.
Eve certainly picked up some tips from Bono on how to turn heads, and looked lovely in the light pink skirt, black bodice and sheer overlay alongside Miu Miu heels, while Penn wore a Giorgio Armani tux.
Earlier in the day she had attended a photo call for her new film too, and opted for a Miu Miu dress with a neon green cut-out leather yoke.
Being in the company of stars including Gwen Stefani, Rosario Dawson and Faye Dunaway didn’t seem to faze the young actress at all and appeared calm and relaxed.
©Cute in Chanel: Eve turned heads in a light pink skirt, black bodice and sheer overlay by Chanel, alongside Miu Miu black heels
This Must Be The Place is not Eve’s first appearance on screen though and had her first debut in 2002 on her father’s video documentary ‘U2 Go Home: Live from Slane Castle’.
She also appeared on Irish chat show The Late Late Show in 2003 and in 2008 had a role in the drama The 27 Club - which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York.
Eve also had a starring role last year in a short film titled For The First Time, but her latest project is by sure her largest.
This Must Be The Place sees Penn play a wealthy former rock star in Dublin, who is now bored and embarks on a quest to find his father’s persecutor – an ex-Nazi war criminal now hiding out in the U.S.
©Cast members: Director Paolo Sorrentino stands to the right of Eve Hewson (centre) and Sean Penn stands to the left of her at the screening of This Must Be The Place at Cannes
©Rising actress: Eve had her first film debut in 2002 on her father's video documentary 'U2 Go Home: Live from Slane Castle', and has starred in a short film as well as a full length drama
Learning his father is close to death, he travels to New York in the hope of being reconciled with him during his final hours, only to arrive too late.
Having been estranged for over 30 years, it is only now in death that he learns the true extent of his father’s humiliation in Auschwitz at the hands of former SS Officer Aloise Muller – an event he is determined to avenge.
While Eve plays his 16-year-old friend covered in tattoos, who rides around on a skateboard – which she admitted was hard to master.

©Star attractions: Rosario Dawson looked stunning and sexy in a strapless ruffled red gown,

Sean Penn no doubt picked up some tips from Bono on how to play a rock star, but the U2 star did not attend yesterday’s event.
But Bono is no stranger to Cannes and in 2007, he played alongside the rest of U2 at the top of the Palais steps to launch the screening of concert film U2 3D.
©Strike a pose: Earlier in the day Eve and Sean joined Judd Hirsch (left) and director Paolo Sorrentino at a photo call for their film in Cannes
©Fashionista: Eve Hewson opted for a Miu Miu dress with a neon green cutout leather yoke for the photo call, while Penn decided to wear his denims
Eve is Bono and his wife Ali Hewson’s second-eldest daughter and grew up in Dublin with her three siblings, Jordan, 22, Elijah, 11, and John, 10, away from public exposure.
Her youngest brother John turns 10 today, which he will no doubt be celebrating with his famous family at home in Ireland.
©Proud parents: Bono and Eve's mother Ali Hewson (seen here in Dublin last month) didn't attend Cannes this year and are thought to be back in Ireland to celebrate their 10-year-old son's birthday today

Near East: Egypt recovers ancient artefacts smuggled to US
Egypt said on Sunday it has recovered 123 ancient artefacts that had been smuggled outside the country and were later confiscated in New York.

Egypt's major archaeological sites were targeted for looting after the 2011 uprising that toppled former president Hosni Mubarak.

Thousands of artefacts, most obtained from illicit digs, later surfaced on the international market, at auction and on websites.

The 123 artefacts to be returned were "illegally taken outside Egypt, and have been confiscated by the US customs authority in New York," Antiquities Minister Mamdouh al-Damati said in a statement.

"Egypt proved its ownership of the artefacts and the United States has decided to return them."

The items were on a ministry list of smuggled items, and include a group of coloured coffins dating back to the 26th dynasty, a stele from the new kingdom and several Graeco-Roman coins.

Officials say the artefacts will be repatriated in the next few days.

Egypt has signed several agreements that enable it to reclaim such ancient pieces after proving their ownership and that they had been smuggled abroad.

Travel: Replica of prehistoric Chauvet cave opens
A stunning replica of the 36,000 year-old Grotte Chauvet, home to the oldest figurative cave drawings in the world and an UNESCO Heritage site, opened to the public at the weekend. Here's a look inside the country's latest tourist attraction.

The grotto at Vallon-Pont d'Arc in the Ardeche region of southern France, is a reproduction of the closely guarded Grotte Chauvet, which was granted World Heritage status last year.

The French president had already officially inaugurated the museum earlier this month and it officially opened to the public on Saturday.

The replica cave, which took a team of scientists two and a half years to create, will enable tourists from around the world to continue to see the frescos of painted animals without damaging the original cave.

Unique in the world for being such an identical and precise reproduction, the grotto has been built in the shape of a bear's paw, and stands just one kilometre away from the original site.

Inside the new grotto, which came a cost of €55 million visitors will be able to see more than a thousand drawings, including 425 animal figures of 14 different species, which have been meticulously reproduced.

The smell, humidity and even stalactites of the Grotte Chauvet have also been recreated to make the new site as authentic as can be.

The visitor walks down a long ramp to get into the building housing the replica, entering a darkened, cool and humid place that mirrors conditions in the grotto.

Then just like in the real cave, people stick to a walkway that takes them past replica bones and the skull of an Alpine ibex, a species of wild goat.

The drawings reveal themselves as the visitors walk further into the fake cave, a total of 1,000 paintings including 425 animals -- including bears, rhinos, big cats, owls.

These have been reproduced using charcoal, just like our Aurignacian ancestors did some 36,000 years ago.

The reconstruction covers 3,500sq m and is housed in a huge
     concrete-clad building [Credit: AFP]

Using ultra-modern techniques such as 3D imaging, engineers, sculptors, painters and visual artists faithfully reproduced the paintings.

A team of 10 people in Paris also worked for four years to reproduce stalactites, stalagmites and other formations present in the Grotte Chauvet itself.

Authorities hope that the giant replica will attract some 350,000 visitors a year.

The original Chauvet grotto was preserved for more than 20,000 years thanks to the fallen rocks, which blocked its entrance.

The grotto was discovered on the 18th December 1994 by amateur potholers: Jean-Marie Chauvet, Eliette Brunel et Christian Hillaire.

If you are wondering how important the grotto is, then the words of Philippe Lalliot France's envoy to UNESCO, should leave you in no doubt.

"I had the chance, I should say the privilege, to visit the cave... and I was literally stunned by what I saw, which revolutionizes our views of our origins," said Lalliot after the UNESCO vote last year.

A French lawmaker for the Ardeche, Pascal Terrasse, also described the cave as "a first cultural act".

"This artist has now been recognized," Terrasse said. "May he forgive us for waiting 36,000 years to recognize his work."

  • Another something just for me...

    Another something just for me...
    Summer skirt
A quick and easy summer skirt made up in a "New York" themed print. I am not usually drawn to buying themed fabrics but this one seemed to stand out to me as one that would make a unique skirt. If it had a New Zealand theme or Kiwiana theme I would have steered well clear so if you're from the US I can understand if it's not your cup of tea.
Anyway I'm really pleased with how this skirt came out and how quickly it came together as it took only 2 - 3 hours to whip up. It is quite a flattering style that sits nicely on my hips and therefore not cutting into my waist. The only thing I changed is to make it a little shorter so it comes to my knees.

For a bit of added interest I added some mini blue ric-rac around the bottom edge of the top band and normal sized red ric-rac around the hemline. I used an invisible zipper on the side seam using this tutorial which shows just how easy these zippers are to install. The pattern is  "New Look" no.6595 if you're interested in making this skirt too. Now all I need is a couple of tops or three to go with it!

Born in Los Angeles, California, Jolie is the daughter of actors Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand. She is the sister of actor James Haven, niece of singer-songwriter Chip Taylor, and goddaughter of actors Jacqueline Bisset and Maximilian Schell. On her father's side, Jolie is of German and Slovak descent and on her mother's side, she is of French Canadian and Dutch ancestry She is also said to be part Iroquois through her mother although Voight has claimed that Bertrand was "not seriously Iroquois", and that they merely said it to enhance her exotic background
After her parents' separation in 1976, Jolie and her brother were raised by their mother, who abandoned her acting ambitions and moved with them to Palisades, New York As a child, Jolie regularly saw movies with her mother and later explained that this had inspired her interest in acting; she had not been influenced by her father When she was eleven years old, the family moved back to Los Angeles. Jolie then decided she wanted to act and enrolled at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute, where she trained for two years and appeared in several stage productions.
At the age of 14, she dropped out of her acting classes and aspired to become a funeral director During this period, she wore black clothing, experimented with knife play, and went out moshing with her live-in boyfriendTwo years later, after the relationship had ended, she rented an apartment above a garage a few blocks from her mother's home She returned to theatre studies and graduated from high school a year early, though in recent times she has referred to this period with the observation, "I am still at heart—and always will bejust a punk kid with tattoos
She later recalled her time as a student at Beverly Hills High School as one of feeling isolated among the children of some of the area's affluent families; Jolie's mother survived on a more modest income, and Jolie often wore second-hand clothes. She was teased by other students, who targeted her for her distinctive features, for being extremely thin, and for wearing glasses and braces Her self-esteem was further diminished when her initial attempts at modeling proved unsuccessful. She started to cut herself; later commenting, "I collected knives and always had certain things around. For some reason, the ritual of having cut myself and feeling the pain, maybe feeling alive, feeling some kind of release, it was somehow therapeutic to me
Jolie was estranged from her father for many years. The two tried to reconcile and he appeared with her in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) In July 2002, Jolie filed a request to legally change her name to "Angelina Jolie", dropping Voight as her surname; the name change was made official on September 12, 2002 In August of the same year, Voight claimed that his daughter had "serious mental problems" on Access Hollywood. Jolie later indicated that she no longer wished to pursue a relationship with her father, saying, "My father and I don't speak. I don't hold any anger toward him. I don't believe that somebody's family becomes their blood. Because my son's adopted, and families are earned." She stated that she did not want to publicize her reasons for her estrangement from her father, but because she had adopted her son Maddox, she did not think it was healthy for her to associate with Voight In February 2010, Jolie publicly reunited with her father when he visited her on the set of The Tourist in Venice

The Largest Outdoor Short Film Festival — Tropfest 2015

    Movie Extra Tropfest

    Tropfest 2015 | Gold Coast | Australia

And no, unfortunately that isn't as dirty as it sounds. The world's largest short film festival, the Movie Extra Tropfest, is on again this weekend and by some beautiful sign from the Gods, it's coming to the Gold Coast. I know what you're thinking; `so what? I don't live on the Gold Coast.' But for those of us who call the cultural vacuum home, having an event like this each year is a glorious reminder that yes, there is artistic expression and free-thinking individuals somewhere. Rejoice!

The festival is one of Australia's most iconic cultural events and has grown from humble beginnings in the early nineties at the Tropicana Café in Sydney, to what is now the largest outdoor short film festival globally. Out of thousands of films that entered, the 16 finalists will be screened on Sunday night with the 14 finalists in the Trop Jr category playing in the afternoon.

The finalists are broadcast nationally to a live audience of more than 150,000 via simultaneous satellite broadcast in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Hobart, Canberra, Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Perth. A fantastic opportunity for up and coming filmmakers, the top entrants compete for prizes worth $150,000 across several categories.

Tropfest festival director John Polson, who also directed the Russel Crowe-starring film Tenderness (for those of you playing at home)
Festival director and founder John Polson says watching the entries is the best part of his job, but choosing the final 16 is the "the toughest''.
"This year's line-up encompasses an incredible, entertaining and thought-provoking mix of comedy, drama, animation, documentary and even mocumentary,'' he says.
"There are some familiar faces amongst the 16 finalists, including some past Tropfest finalists, but it's also great to be able to showcase some of Australia's best, new filmmaking talent.''

The flick I'm, er, rooting for is Testicle, an animated short film from a duo in Queensland about a baby born with one testicle. You've got to admit, it's pretty ballsy *insert face slap here*. The festival highlights will also be broadcast live on the Movie Extra Channel. If you feel like you're missing out, never fear because Tropfest is a global event and the New York leg is one of the biggest so I suggest check out the website here for all the details on a Tropfest near you.
