On Thursday, May 25, our friends at Idle Hands Bar bring you the Official A Pale Horse Named Death listening party for their brand new album titled "And Hell Will Follow Me". Not only will the music be cranked and the drink specials will be poured to the masses, but the bands founder and front-man Mr. Sal Abruscato (Life of Agony) will be there to meet his fans. Here is the Official press release: "A PALE HORSE NAMED DEATH's debut album "And Hell Will Follow Me" is set to be released June 14th on SPV/Steamhammer. To celebrate the release of the album, the band will be hosting an exclusive listening party at Idle Hands Bar in New York, NY. Idle Hands is located at 25 Avenue B. The party is open to the public and members of APHND will of course be in attendance. Don't miss what is sure to be a killer event with drink specials and your chance to hear the new album before it hits stores." Here is the artist bio: "A PALE HORSE NAMED DEATH is the brainchild of Brooklyn, NY native Sal Abruscato, and sounds like Alice in Chains mysteriously sneaking up behind Type O Negative with a butcher knife while being filmed for a future episode of "Law & Order". Critical acclaim has been quick upon the announcement of the album's June release. Sal's partner in crime on "And Hell Will Follow Me" is Matt Brown, sound engineer extraordinaire and guitarist of fellow NY band SEVENTH VOID. "The chemistry between me and Matt is unique and flawless very rare in today's music. We are the murdering evil version of Lennon and McCartney." says Abruscato. Brown adds, "Sal asked me if I would help to take these songs to the next level. I took on this project for my friend, to find some closure in rough times. The music is just an extension of our friendship and our passion for creativity." The album artwork was done by Sam Shearon aka Mr. Sam, who has previously done work for Rob Zombie, Fear Factory and Cradle of Filth to name a few, and features a 20 page booklet with artwork for each individual song. Additionally, the Double LP version will feature a never before heard bonus track called "Pick Up Truck". To top that all off, Life of Agony's Keith Caputo lent background vocals to four tracks and Lou Reed's saxophonist Ulrich Krieger guests on "Die Alone". Bobby Hambel from Biohazard - who also plays with the band live - played the guitar leads on three tunes. APHND is also a force to be reckoned with live, with shows and festivals already planned in both the U.S. and Europe. Alongside Sal, Matt and Bobby, the live line-up places Type O and Seventh Void drummer Johnny Kelly behind the kit, and Eric Morgan on bass. "This is my pinnacle creation, the best album I have ever done." commented Sal. And after listening, most people are tending to agree." By DAILY MAIL REPORTER Barack Obama and David Cameron serve food from a barbecue as they entertain British and American service members and veterans at 10 Downing Street today Taliban must make 'decisive split' with al Qaida, says Cameron in joint press conference with Obama after garden party Forget table tennis - this is the ultimate photo opportunity for Barack Obama and David Cameron. The UK and U.S. leaders forged a special culinary relationship today as they manned the grill at a barbecue in honour of servicemen in the garden at No. 10. It was a moment of fun after this morning's in-depth talks on issues ranging from military campaigns in Libya and Afghanistan to global economic reform. Obama and Cameron diligently serve a burger to a soldier wounded in service during the garden party U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama and Samantha Cameron, wife of the Prime Minister, serve food at the barbecue for British and American service members and veterans The pair gamely served the cooked meat at the lunch party while their wives, Samantha and Michelle, spooned side dishes onto the plates of 150 American and British service members. The Prime Minister and the President appeared at ease as they performed their catering duties in shirt sleeves, chatting and laughing while they worked. Following the barbecue, Obama and Cameron gave a joint press conference in which the Prime Minister said Taliban must make a 'decisive split' with al Qaida if a political settlement in Afghanistan is to be brokered. Speaking outside Lancaster House in London, Mr Cameron said the U.S. operation against Osama bin Laden represented a 'strike right at the heart of international terrorism'. Mr Cameron said the next 12 months represented a 'vital year' in Afghanistan, while British and American troops had 'broken the momentum of the insurgency' in the country. The Prime Minister said the next 12 months represented a 'vital year' in Afghanistan In the Taliban heartland of Kandahar and central Helmand, the insurgents were 'on the back foot', the Prime Minister said. Calling for a political settlement, he told the press conference: 'Now is the moment to step up our efforts to reach a political settlement. Mr Clegg, gesturing to the sunlit windows, said to the U.S. leader: 'You've brought the sun today' Mr Obama shares a joke with Nick Clegg at 10 Downing Street. Shaking hands with the Deputy Prime Minister, the U.S. leader said: 'Wonderful to see you' During the talks, the U.S. President insisted the alliance between America and the UK is key to providing global security after a 'difficult decade'. Nick Clegg proved that three isn't always a crowd as he joined the leaders and was seen sharing a joke with the President. Mr Obama was smiling broadly after making the short journey in Cadillac One - his bombproof limousine known as 'The Beast' - from Buckingham Palace. The leaders greeted each other with a handshake before Mr Obama patted the Prime Minister on the shoulder. They then shook hands again on the steps of No. 10 but they were no Obama smiles before today's meeting with Cameron. The pair are discussing issues ranging from military campaigns in Libya and Afghanistan to global economic reform He is expected to tell MPs and peers that even though the world has changed significantly since the Second World War, the UK-US relationship and the broader transatlantic alliance is still the 'cornerstone of global security'. The 'Arab Spring' in the Middle East and North Africa reinforce that the allies' shared beliefs are 'not just relevant but essential', he is to say. The president will also strike an optimistic note by claiming that the world is 'turning a corner' following a 'difficult decade'. As well as operations winding down in Iraq, the shift to Afghanistan taking control of its own security has begun, and al Qaida has been 'weakened' by successes such as the recent killing of Osama bin Laden. Yesterday, large parts of central London were brought to a standstill as crowds gathered to welcome the president for his first state visit. But the Anglo-American team took a sound beating at the hands of 16-year-olds Jason Do and Jamiyu Mojaji at the Globe Academy in Southwark. 'I firmly believe that the strength of our links and many shared interests will continue to ensure that when the United States and the United Kingdom stand together, our people and other people of goodwill around the world will be more secure and more prosperous,' the Queen said. Responding with his own toast, Mr Obama spoke of the 'rock-solid foundation' between the two countries. Mr Obama's motorcade travels along the Mall as it leaves Buckingham Palace to go to Downing Street this morning 'From that day to this, you have been our closest partner in the struggle to protect our people from terrorism attacks and violent extremism from around the world despite very heavy sacrifices here,' the president said. 'As we confront the challenges of the 21st century together we have can confidence in the partnership our two countries share, based on a rock-solid foundation built during Queen Elizabeth's lifetime of extraordinary service to her nation and to the world.' Mr Cameron and Mr Obama sat down for talks in the White Room of No 10 shortly before 10am this morning. 'Okay. Enough about Ryan Giggs. What's the latest on Arnold Schwarzenegger?' As about a dozen photographers took pictures at the start of the meeting, the president joked: 'All right guys, one of those must have worked.' Foreign Secretary William Hague and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton followed the two leaders into Number 10 half an hour later. Mrs Clinton waved briefly and smiled as she entered. Mr Clegg, gesturing to the sunlit windows, said: 'You've brought the sun today.' At about 10.40am, the President, Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister moved to the Cabinet Room for talks on security with other ministers, advisers and officials. Mr Cameron and Mr Obama sat opposite each other in the centre of the coffin-shaped Cabinet table, the Prime Minister flanked by Mr Clegg and Mr Hague, and the President by Mrs Clinton and the U.S. Ambassador to London, Louis Susman. By DAILY MAIL REPORTER Grey daybreak: Warmly-dressed revellers watch the sun rise for the summer solstice after a cold night at Stonehenge in Wiltshire Tens of thousands of revellers gathered at Stonehenge for an all-night party to celebrate the longest day of the year this morning - despite grey clouds that obscured the sunrise. English Heritage say 18,000 revellers descended on the site that is usually roped off to the public to witness dawn at exactly 4.43am. The event is significant for druids, who were joined by hippies, pagans and tourists as well as hordes of younger visitors in search of a good party. Prayers for peace: A druid welcomes the sun, left, while another strums in the summer on her guitar. Despite the gloom, the sunrise was greeted with cheers and songs Waiting for the sun: Crowds gather in darkness at Stonehenge. There were around 18,000 revellers there to greet the dawn However the number of people who camped out overnight or arrived early to witness the dawn was down on previous years because of the poor weather and the solstice falling on a weekday. There was no beautiful sunrise into clear blue skies - heavy overnight rain gave way to overcast but dry skies as the sun rose, greeted by cheering and applause. The self-styled King Arthur Pendragon, the veteran druid who led the event, said it had passed off smoothly. Here comes the sun: Revellers cheer as the sun finally breaks through the clouds, more than a couple of hours after daybreak 'It is great to see the stones being used in this way, as opposed to the usual manner with tourists being herded around.' Stonehenge, which is between 4,000 and 5,000 years old, has in past years been the site of confrontations between revellers and police. But Superintendent Gavin Williams, of Wiltshire Police, said the majority of the crowd this year were well-behaved and 'came to see the sunrise in the spirit of the event', which was policed in the same way as night spots in the county. However, two men were photographed fighting at the event. Of the 20 arrests, 11 were for drugs offences and five for public order offences. In addition, 47 drug seizures were made. Light in the East: Revellers surround the ancient stones as dawn breaks. Celebrations centre on the Heelstone, which is aligned with the midsummer sunrise Leading the ceremony: Chief druid King Arthur Pendragon leads incantations during the summer solstice ceremony Through the ages: Brightly dressed druids greet the solstice, left, and a very young initiate touches the ancient stones. The stone circle is usually roped off to visitors Mr Williams said: 'Although it was disappointing that some individuals chose to bring drugs with them, they were dealt with robustly.' English Heritage, which manages the Stonehenge site on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, said the atmosphere had been 'peaceful and good natured'. The annual event is a modern take on solstice celebrations which were once a highlight of the pre-Christian calendar. Celebrations focus on the Heelstone, which sits just outside the main circle, and is aligned with the midsummer sunrise. The solstice is one of the few times access is granted inside the stone circle, which has been roped off since 1978 following years of erosion and vandalism. Stonehenge's origins remain a mystery, but one theory is that it is a huge astronomical calendar. Others say an ancient sun-worshipping culture aligned the structure with the midsummer sunrise and the midwinter sunset. The World Heritage site was used as a cremation cemetery since its inception, archaeologists say, but it is unclear if that was its principal function. It was build in three phases, with stones brought from up to 150 miles away, between 3000 BC and 1600 BC . High point: A man wedges himself at the top of one of the pillars. English Heritage said the event was 'peaceful and good-natured' Summer Solstice celebrations at Stonehenge

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER Happy birthday: Leandro prepares for his girlfriend's 33rd birthday bash by heading to a Surrey garden centre to pick up some flora and fauna It’s his girlfriend’s 33rd birthday tomorrow and Leandro Penna was spotted shopping for flowers ahead of the big day. Katie Price’s Argentinian boyfriend didn’t go to his local florist though, and instead headed to a gardening centre in Surrey. The green-fingered model appeared to have chosen a range of different flower pots, from pink to red to purple. He also wheeled a selection of small trees over to his car before filling his boot with the flora and fauna. Despite dressing down in casual shorts, a T-shirt and trainers, Leandro couldn’t hide his model good looks. Wheeling in the plants: Leandro threw on his gardening gear to pick up the plants Penna has apparently been working in Jordan's garden all week with her sister's boyfriend, Harry Brooks Meanwhile, Katie Price has been getting excited about her birthday bash, which she is celebrating tonight with a fancy dress party, according to The Sun. Handsome gardener: Despite dressing down in casual shorts, a T-shirt and trainers, Leandro couldn't hide his model good looks The former glamour model wrote on her Twitter page today: ‘You will look wicked tonight! Everything organised so I can chill today in fact haven’t felt well past few days cold on way!x’ [sic] Leandro has apparently been preening her garden in time for the party, but perhaps his latest flowers are a surprise bunch for Katie. She has apparently organised the dress-up part at her home and has invited some of her ex-boyfriends, but not her ex-husbands, the tabloid reported. The Pricey is said to have invited Blue star Duncan James and Another Level singer Dane Bowers among 300 other guests. Birthday girl: Katie Price was spotted at her local Sainsbury's in Essex with her son Junior yesterday, while Leandro was in the garden But Peter Andre and Alex Reid are apparently not invited, after having both gone through very public divorces with Jordan. Katie has been dating 25-year-old Leandro since they met at Elton John’s Oscar party in February this year, less than two months after she split from second husband Alex Reid. They have been virtually inseparable since and she has even joined him on vacation to his home country of Argentina to meet the Penna family. And rumours circulated this week that the couple have had matching tattoos of the date that they met - but have not yet been spotted. Business meetings: Earlier in the week Katie Price was seen arriving at a hotel in London, where she had some business appointments Garden centre: Leandro visited this Surrey garden shop to pick up the flora and fauna source: dailymail

The lovely Steph of Stephmodo, asked me to applique some napkins with cherries on them, and then we ended up doing some cute notebooks for favors for her youngest daughter's half birthday party. She brought the cutest cherry sucker she purchased in France, that she planned the party around. So cute! You can see more of the sweet party she planned here.
By JAMES WHITE Newlyweds: Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge, back from their honeymoon, meet with the First couple inside Buckingham Palace President and First Lady flew to London a day early due to ash cloud fears Just third state visit by U.S. President to Britain in 100 years Obama and Cameron vow to support 'Arab Spring' uprising Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge today welcomed the President of the United States to Buckingham Palace in their first big test as a Royal couple. Fresh from their Seychelles honeymoon, a well-tanned Duchess of Cambridge performed her Royal duties with aplomb as she spoke to Mr and Mrs Obama in a 10-minute private meeting. There were smiles all round moments earlier when the Obamas arrived at Buckingham Palace and were met by the Queen and Prince Philip. Sorry we couldn't make the wedding: The couples chat and no doubt the recent Royal marriage ceremony was a topic of conversation Friendly: The couples met before President Obama was the subject of a 41-gun salute They arrived in the Presidential limousine known as The Beast, which pulled into the front of Buckingham Palace just before noon. After the meeting of the heads of state, the Obamas spent about 10 minutes speaking with Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge, before meeting more Royal figures. Senior members of the Queen's household were introduced to the Obamas in the Bow room. Among them were the Queen's private secretary Christopher Geidt, her treasurer Sir Alan Reed, master of the household Air Vice Marshall David Walker, and the Lord Chamberlain Earl Peel. Others who met the president and his wife included Brigadier Archie Miller-Bakewell, Philip's private secretary, Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Ford, comptroller of the Lord Chamberlain's Office, and a number of ladies-in-waiting to the Queen including Virginia Ogilvy, Countess of Airlie. Having a giggle: The Duchess of Cambridge and Michelle Obama enjoy a brief moment of hilarity during their meeting Meet and greet: The Queen welcomes Barack Obama to Buckingham Palace, watched by his wife Michelle and Prince Philip Old friends reunited: Two years on from their last meeting, the Obamas and the Queen and Prince Philip look pleased to see one another The Obamas were then taken to Buckingham Palace Gardens where they faced with a guard of honour, 101 soldiers from the 1st Battalion, Scots Guards, and three officers lined up in two rows. Behind them were the Band, Pipes and Drums of the Scots Guard. The air was shattered by the noise of booming gunfire as a 41-gun salute was begun by the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery in nearby Green Park while simultaneously at the Tower of London another was fired by the Honourable Artillery Company. The guardsmen gave a royal salute and then the American national anthem was played in honour of the US president. Hold on to your hats! The windy weather plays havoc with the Royal party Ceremonial welcome: The Obamas are joined by members of the Royal Family to hear the U.S. national anthem The British National Anthem was not performed as the Queen is in residence at the palace and so it was needed to mark her arrival at the historic building. Major Rory Shannon, in command of the guard of honour, approached the heads of state and formally stated that the troops were ready for inspection. Mr Obama, with the Duke, then walked down the terrace steps to the waiting soldiers in their bearskins and scarlet tunics. The major escorted the president along the two lines of guardsmen as Philip followed a pace behind. The U.S. leader could be seen exchanging words with the senior officer as they passed the troops who, when not performing ceremonial duties, are fighting soldiers. Guard of honour: Prince Philip accompanies Mr Obama as they inspect soldiers of the Household Cavalry in Buckingham Palace Gardens Protection: The heavily-armoured Presidential limousine arrives at Buckingham Palace At the end of the inspection, Mr Obama took his place beside the Queen and watched as the guardsmen marched off before the party headed inside for lunch. Earlier the President declared the UK-U.S. partnership 'an essential relationship for us and for the world'. But he began his visit today by making a solemn statement about the loss of life in Joplin, Missouri, where a tornado claimed 116 lives on Sunday night. The U.S. president flew into Stansted airport ahead of schedule last night to avoid the possibility of disruption to air travel from the ash cloud from an erupting Icelandic volcano. He had been due to fly from Ireland on board Air Force One this morning to be greeted at the Essex airport by the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall. But the decision was taken to bring forward the visit after the announcement of cancellations to some UK commercial flights due to the ash billowing from the Grimsvotn volcano - with more disruption expected in the days to come. Arrival: Crowds strain to take pictures of the Presidential limousine, accompanied by police outriders, as it arrives at Buckingham Palace Welcoming party: President Obama, left with Prince Charles, and First Lady Michelle, right with the Duchess of Cornwall, leave the U.S. Ambassador's residence Winfield House today Relaxed: The President enjoys a joke with Prince Charles, left, while Michelle Obama and the Duchess of Cornwall are deep in conversation The state visit - only the third by a U.S. president to the UK in 100 years - comes at a time of close co-operation between Britain and America on issues ranging from Libya to Afghanistan, counter-terrorism and the Middle East peace process. This strong partnership was reflected in a joint article written by Mr Obama and Prime Minister David Cameron for The Times, in which they declare: 'Ours is not just a special relationship, it is an essential relationship - for us and for the world.' After his early arrival, Mr Obama was spending the night in the US ambassador's residence in London, Winfield House in Regent's Park. Solemn: Barack Obama began his British visit today by making a statement about the appalling loss of life in Joplin, Missouri, where a tornado left at least 116 people dead Despite the hasty change to their planned schedule, Mr Obama and wife Michelle were still given the formal welcome expected of a state visit. They were greeted by the Lord in Waiting Viscount Brookeborough, who met them on behalf of the Queen. Instead of a traditional red carpet they left the plane on special red-carpeted stairs because of windy conditions at the airport. Later today the Obamas will view the royal picture gallery before a wreath-laying visit to Westminster Abbey and a state banquet in the evening. The couple will stay as guests of the Queen at Buckingham Palace tonight and tomorrow. Tomorrow will be devoted to politics, with talks between Mr Obama and Mr Cameron at 10 Downing Street, followed by an address to both Houses of Parliament, in which the president is expected to say that the US has no closer ally in the world than Britain. In their joint article, Mr Obama and Mr Cameron put the transatlantic partnership at the heart of the drive for global stability and prosperity. Hello Britain: President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle step off Air Force One as they arrive at London Stansted Airport last night Touchdown: Air Force One arrives at Stansted Airport, London ahead of schedule due to fears volcanic ash would spread over Britain today 'When the United States and Britain stand together, our people and people around the world can become more secure and more prosperous,' they wrote. 'And that is the key to our relationship. Yes, it is founded on a deep emotional connection, by sentiment and ties of people and culture. 'But the reason it thrives, the reason why this is such a natural partnership, is because it advances our common interests and shared values. 'It is a perfect alignment of what we both need and what we both believe. And the reason it remains strong is because it delivers time and again. 'Ours is not just a special relationship, it is an essential relationship - for us and for the world.' They also promised not to abandon the protesters fighting for democracy in the 'Arab Spring'. Flying the flag: British and American colours stand along The Mall leading to Buckingham Palace in preparation for the visit 'We will not stand by as their aspirations get crushed in a hail of bombs, bullets and mortar fire,' said the two leaders. 'We are reluctant to use force, but when our interests and values come together, we know we have a responsibility to act... 'We will stand with those who want to bring light into dark, support those who seek freedom in place of repression, aid those laying the building blocks of democracy.' It comes after Foreign Secretary William Hague and US secretary of state Hillary Clinton sent out a message to Syria's President Bashar Assad to halt his regime's repression of pro-democracy activists. Speaking to American reporters shortly before Mr Obama's arrival, Mr Cameron said there was 'an incredible alignment of views' between his administration and the White House on key global issues, including the military mission in Libya, the uprisings of the Arab Spring, Afghanistan and Pakistan. 'Smile, honey. We'll be meeting the Queen and that hat cost a lot of money.' And he paid lavish tribute to Mr Obama's style, saying that as well as being 'courageous' over issues such as Osama bin Laden, he was also 'thoughtful, measured and serious'. The current closeness of the UK-U.S. relationship was remarked upon at a joint press conference following talks between Mr Hague and Mrs Clinton at the Foreign Office. Mrs Clinton joked: 'If there were any closer alignment, we would worry about each other.' The two leaders are expected to drop in on a barbecue being hosted by their wives Michelle and Samantha for families of military personnel involved in joint UK-U.S. missions overseas. Mr Obama is due to travel on to France on Thursday morning for the G8 summit of leading industrialised nations in Deauville, also being attended by Mr Cameron. Raw Video: Obamas Visit Buckingham Palace
Ah I don’t know what has gotten into me lately – I have been blogging like a mad woman! At least two posts a day for the past weekish. There are stints when I find little to no movie news or reviews that interest me but lately... lately there has been tonnes. Dawn French tonnes. If there hasn’t been a new cinema-plex opening or a new movie worth reviewing, then there’s hordes of news which interests me and I want to write about it. I’m hoping this post will satisfy my insatiable urge to write blog posts at the moment and I intend to have at least a day break after this. But seriously, I just HAD to give you the run down on some up and coming new releases. I had a YouTube binge last night and caught up on a bunch of trailers I hadn’t seen and rewatched some I had. Anywho, here’s my selection of MUST SEE movies for the months of June and July.
Two Lovers
James Gray, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. Nay, let me count the films; Little Odessa (digged), The Yards (blew my freakin' mind), We Own The Night (adored). Now we have his latest offering and Joaquin Phoenix’s alleged last foray in to acting, Two Lovers. The theme of love and the dark comedic elements are new features in a Gray film which has previously dealt with family relations and crime. However, Two Lovers does look like a splendid adult-drama with a juicy cast. It was released in Australia last week but won’t be screening on the Gold Coast until this Thursday (if we’re lucky).
The Hangover
Looks like this little gem from the director of Old School is shaping up to be the surprise comedy hit of the year, but it’s still early days. The trailer is hilarious and in the US it opened to a $46 – $53 million weekend ahead of the Will Ferrell blockbuster Land of the Lost. The critics are frothing for The Hangover too with the almighty Empire giving it four stars. Pretty impressive for a comedy-formula that seems tired. Apparently one of the many benefits here is instead of covering the dramas of a bachelor party, The Hangover starts once the party is over and the three mates have lost the groom (and their memories). Sounds a like a frat-pack version of Memento but the trailer is very appealing, plus Bradley Cooper is great in pretty much anything he’s in.
Bruno
Try and ignore the controversy if you can, but you simply cannot ignore the brilliance of the Bruno trailer. There are few times I have laughed so hard during a trailer. I enjoyed Borat but from the snippets of Bruno I’ve seen, I think Sacha Boren Cohen’s latest character will trump him. The best recommendation I can give this movie is the trailer, I particularly love the African American scenes.
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
Everytime I watch this trailer I get goosebumps. Whether that's because the trailer is actually good or because I'm a massive fan of the books, it's hard to know. I do know this, this movie begins to build towards the Harry Potter series climax which will come to life on screen in the from of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 (to be released six months apart respectively). I’ve never been a huge fan of the films but the last two have certainly improved my expectations dramatically and this looks Potteriffic.
Drag Me To Hell
Easily the film I’m most excited about on this list. Long before director Sam Raimi did the Spiderman films he dominated the horror genre with his Evil Dead series (among others). Apparently Drag Me To Hell is a hilarious and horrific return to form for one of the genre’s heroes. It premiered at Cannes and since then has got rave reviews from every Tom Dick and Harry film critic. Horror is one of my favourite genres but recently there have been only a handful of decent films. Going off the trailer, Drag Me To Hell looks like an awesome ride and I can’t wait to be genuinely scared at the movies again. Its been too long.
My Sisters Keeper
I know, it’s hard to get past the vomit-inducing movie poster complete with Abigail Breslin and Cameron Diaz looking cute. My Sister’s Keeper has been a long awaited adaptation of Jodi Piccoult’s best selling novel. I heard great things about the book and was sincerely disappointed upon finishing it. The book was drawn out, self-indulgent and overly soppy. To my surprise, the trailer looks like its done a much better job of compacting the themes and storyline of the novel. Cameron Diaz looks like she’s about deliver a stellar performance but one of the major reasons to see this film has to be Sofia Vassilieva. Here she plays cancer-ridden Kate but most of you would recognise her from tv’s Medium. She’s a superb little actress and I look forward to seeing this movie despite the misleadingly happy poster (when really this is a film about cancer, death and family relations).
That Land of the Lost shiz is out this Thursday too and as much as I love Will Ferrell, I don’t think I can sit through two hours of him trying to do a Brendan Fraser in Journey to the Centre of the Earth. There’s this other movie you may or may not have heard of, Transformers something? Transformers 2, that’s it. The Bayhem hits screens on June 24 which is, like, so soon for the fanboys patiently waiting. Ew.
p.s. Mickey Rourke’s turn as Russian baddie Whiplash certainly makes Jack Sparrow look straight as a ruler. This, dear readers, is the latest image off the set of Iron Man 2, the sequel to the Robert Downey Jr hit of `08. Rourke stars as the thorn in Tony Stark’s metallic side for the sequel along with Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer. This is the first look at Rourke as Whiplash and was pointed to off Jon Favreau’s Twitter account. I must say, the get-up is a bit... erm... campe? With Scar-Jo in leather as Black Widow and Rourke rocking the bondage, it seems the sequel will be catering to all fetishes. Bunuel would be proud kinky has gone so mainstream.

By NADIA MENDOZA Butt of the joke: Caggie and Spencer sit among cigarette ends on the pavement Her annual school fees cost a yearly salary, but Caggie Dunlop bid farewell to her posh upbringing last night. The Made In Chelsea star sat drunkenly on the pavement outside the Mayfair Hotel, sitting on the concrete surrounded by cigarette butts. She seemed oblivious to the fact she was perched on the floor instead of a throne, as she cosied up to love interest Spencer Matthews. Spencer, who also appears on the E4 reality show, looked delighted with the attention and reciprocated by putting an arm around his friend. The pair, joined by co-stars CJ Chapman and Hugo Taylor, wiled away the hours drinking at the Slazenger party, before heading to Funky Buddha. Caggie, an aspiring singer, has a 'Ross and Rachel' friendship with Eton-educated Spencer. Their 'will they/ won't they' romance has been a prominent storyline in the first season of the programme. But last night, the couple only had eyes for each other and seemed oblivious to fellow partygoers. Eyes only for each other: Spencer and Caggie are oblivious to anyone else The blonde Sloane looked elegant, albeit a little windswept, when she headed out for the evening. Dressed in a short white dress, she kept her long legs under wraps beneath an ankle-length floral coat. But towards the end of the night, she was stumbling around and flashing more than she intended to by striding along with her knickers on display. This morning, Spencer implied it had been a heavy night with an early tweet at 6.30am. He wrote: '@hugo_london Death.. Thank god it's friday.. So much love for you.. x' Fag break: Spencer and Caggie stand outside as they talk among the smokers Windswept: Caggie faced a stiff breeze in her little white tunic Spencer's latest conquest could be a public display of revenge for his ex Chloe Green. The former PR manager, now a broker, reportedly dated the Topshop heiress before she rather incestuously moved on to another lover in their friendship circle - Spencer's bisexual Made In Chelsea co-star Ollie Locke. Sir Phillip's daughter and Spencer, who have been friends for years, are believed to have cemented their relationship in Monaco last month when they attended the Grand Prix together. Former flames: Chloe is believed to be Spencer's co-star Ollie Locke Other guests in attendance were former No1 tennis ace John McEnroe and presenter Jameela Jamil. By DAILY MAIL REPORTER Quagmire: A festival-goer carefully walks through a puddle at the Glastonbury festival in Somerset today Festival fans were contending with muddy mayhem at Glastonbury today after yesterday's torrential downpours turned the 900-acre site into a quagmire. Every inch of Worthy Farm has become a mud bath as early arrivals gear up for the beginning of the main event tomorrow. Welly-clad music fans put on brave faces despite hundreds of tents flooding and treacherous conditions underfoot. Desperate measures: Site workers try to suck mud from the market areas close to the Pyramid Stage in an attempt to dry them before the main event begins tomorrow In for a penny... Tom Wilder, 17, from Kent, gets into the festival spirit and performs a dramatic slide in the Glastonbury Festival mud Diving face down through Britain's biggest mudbath, teenage reveller Tom Wilder ensured the Glastonbury cheers started early. Egged on by his mates, 17-year-old student Tom, from Kent, performed headlong dives on demand to cheer up arrivals trudging through the sodden 900-acre site. Countless efforts left him caked in mud from head to toe, with dairy farm sludge stuck in the braces on his teeth. But he declared with a grin: 'If I run out of clothes, I'll just do it naked.' His dives received roars of approval from hundreds of onlookers along with the group of friends he was camping with. Best friend Callum Burgess, also 17, said: 'I'm supposed to share a tent with him but he can sleep outside. Look at the state of him.' Clouds cleared over the Pilton hills last night, but the rain returned this morning and is due for a reprise later today - the best weather is not expected until Sunday. Tent city: Aerial view of the Glastonbury Festival taken today. Over the course of a few days Glastonbury becomes the home to thousands of party goers creating a temporary town twice the size of the city of Bath More than half the ticket-holders for the sold out event will have squelched their way to the site by tonight. This year's event sees U2, Coldplay and Beyonce headline. Treacherous conditions: Festival goers traipse through the mud around an ice cream van at the Glastonbury Festival But early arrivals' efforts to secure prize camping spots were confounded by yesterday's monsoon-like conditions. Hundreds of tents were flooded withing a few hours as torrential downpours began shortly after gates opened and fans began streaming in. Campers hauling their bags and beers along the slippery thoroughfares were even told to pitch tents on hills to escape the worst of the wet conditions. Marc Saunders, 31, from Bath, pitched his tent in driving rain with his five-year-old daughter Sam and wife Sarah. He said: 'We say it's "go hard or go home". We're thrilled to be here, the place is magical - even in the mud.' Go hard or go home: Muddy revellers chill out at the stone circle during the evening celebrations at Glastonbury last night Another early arrival, 19-year-old James Street, from Belfast, was caked in mud from head to toe after slipping in a puddle. He said: 'I'm drenched, obviously. But it's great just to be here with my pals. Legendary place, legendary line-up. 'We're not interested in the headliners - there's so much more to see.' The first of the main acts take to the Pyramid Stage tomorrow, when the wet weather is expected to return. Among a host of theatrical events at the site will be Glastonbury's own version of La Tomatina. Other new elements for this year include The Spirit of 71 stage, with acts that played at the festival 40 years ago. Beyonce, who fell in love with the Somerset festival after watching husband Jay-Z perform three years ago, is believed to have cleared her diary to party in Pilton over three days. Rapper Jay-Z is even money with bookmakers Ladbrokes to join his wife on stage this Sunday. NOW WATCH THE MET OFFICE'S GLASTONBURY WEATHER FORECAST
A tourist visiting Vadnagar, 120 km from Ahmedabad, may find it difficult to envision the sleepy town as a thriving international trading market. But, texts by Chinese traveller Heung Tsang and Mughal chronicler Abul Fazl belie these assumptions.Excavated Buddhist Monastery in Vadnagar [Credit: ASI]
Since 2006, the birthplace of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has seen vigorous archaeological digs in pursuit of the 10 Buddhist monasteries Tsang described during his visit to Vadnagar some 1,400 years ago, recorded in his journals Hsi-yu Chi (Record of Western Countries). The efforts multiplied following the discovery of a nearly 2,000-yearold Buddhist monastery by Y S Rawat, director of the Gujarat State Archaeology Department — an excavation that was given the push by the then state government. Modi's tweet about the Gujarat connect with Buddhism in September 2014, ahead of Chinese premier Xi Jinping's visit to India, only increased curiosity about Vadnagar. Perhaps this is why, in 2013, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) took over from Rawat and started excavations this January. But, it isn't going to be an easy ride.
The Human Angle
Vadnagar has 45 villages, but it is the fortified area that forms Vadnagar town (in a 3.5-km perimeter area) that's the subject of curiosity.
The ASI is currently conducting trial excavations at three sites. One is near the Kirti Toranas — 40-feet high intricately carved towers representing victory over enemy built during the Kumarpal Solanki rule (11-12 century AD) — while the other two are in the Baba no Tekro Locality I and Locality II. These two sites are located on the banks of Sarmishtha lake, a landmark, and is part of the Vadnagar panchayat area. The land here is owned by both, government and as private owners. And, it's these two areas that the ASI believes, have the potential for significant archaeological finds.
Although a team of researchers have found remnants from the Solanki era dating back to 960 AD, they haven't yet discovered any Buddhist monasteries. Trial excavations, typically, entail finding out when the city originated and its expanse in ancient times viz a viz the present town.

In the last two-and-a-half months, says superintending archaeologist Dr Madhulika Samanta, the ASI has found about 150 coins from the 1-3rd century AD. The present fortification was built by Kumarapal Solanki (1143-1174 CE). "The main town of Vadnagar is situated on a high mound, created over a number of buildings that were built and destroyed during earlier periods, and the settlement has not outgrown the medieval fortification," says superintending archaeologist Dr Madhulika Samanta. This has led them to believe that much of Vadnagar's treasures could lie beneath the human habitation — as per the 2011 Census it had 27,700 residents.
This, locals believe, may pose challenges. A local, who is familiar with the excavations, said, "The land under which the Buddhist monastery was found was a vacant government plot surrounded by residential houses. We believe a lot of adjoining area needs to be dug up for further findings, but they are covered by homes. Vacating these houses can be a huge problem and cause unrest among people."
Expanding Horizons
Samanta says that a search for the remaining nine monasteries might have to extend beyond the current periphery of the historic town. "I believe Vadnagar was much bigger and more densely populated during the medieval period than it is now. The existence of 10 monasteries, within the fortified area is not possible as monasteries are mostly built on the periphery. We need to carry out excavations over large areas to be able to locate them."
But, she claims the district magistrate has failed to give permission for further excavations. "We have followed up with the collector since January. I met him on February 13 and have written to him four to five times but there is an inordinate delay. The ASI does not take land. We only excavate, document and return the land. If the land is owned by a private party, we compensate the owner. If it is government property, we do not need to."

Excavations may soon extend to adjoining villages. "We are setting up a tent at another village in a week. Excavation will be extended to the eastern and northern banks of the Sarmishtha lake," she adds.
While excavations are on, security for the discoveries is minimal. At the site where the Buddhist monastery was uncovered — along with a stupa, a courtyard, and several cells where the Buddhist monks are believed to have lived — there is no security, leaving the area vulnerable to vandalism.
For now, the ASI has hired family members of private land owners as labourers or security at the site of the trial excavations — mostly agricultural land. "We pay them for their services and use their land. The more the number of working family members, the more these families earn," she adds.
Sixty-two-year-old Mangaji Thakor, a farmer who has lent part of his land, sees profits in the deal. He said, "I earn about Rs 50,000 per year from agricultural produce. I am being paid Rs 222 per day for guarding excavated land in my field."
While the Thakors are counting the cash, not all Vadnagar residents share the joy. Kamlesh Patel, 37, says he used to run his scrap-dealing business on part of the land where the Buddhist monastery was discovered. Patel, who has now filed a case in the court, says, "I used to earn Rs 2.5 lakh each year from the business and have lost that much money each year since the land was taken. The state's possession of my land has ruined my 20-year-old business."

The Many Names of Vadnagar
The original town was a settlement of Nagars, a well-known Brahmin community of Banias. In the 7th century, Hueng Tsang visited Vadnagar, then known as Anandapura, and described it as a rich and densely populated city, affluent enough to support culture, arts, literature and religious centres of learning for Buddhist monks and Hindu priests. The town is also believed to have once been called Chamatkarpura, after its king was cured of leprosy after bathing in lake Shakti Tirth. Later, it came to be known as Anartapur and its warriors found mention in the Mahabharata. Vadnagar also has a Greek connect, as it is believed that the Nagars are descendants of Alexander's army who stayed back. In 1152 AD, the Solankis thwarted the Malvas attack and Kumarpal Solanki built the fort where the present population lives. After the Solanki period, the town faced attacks from the Delhi Sultanate, Marathas and Gaekwads.
Archaeological Intrigue
The ASI team that is conducting trial excavations at Baba no Tekro Locality I and Locality II in Vadnagar has found coins made of the alloy potin, lead and copper belonging to the Solanki period. They have also found seals that were used on coins of other kingdoms like the Deccan, which the Solankis had annexed. However, what intrigues them is an ash layer under the solid ground in the agricultural fields. "The ashy deposits are a metre deep. A huge area has been discovered entirely covered with ashy deposits one and a half meter below a mud floor and it is obviously built by humans. As lot of antiquities, bones of different animals and iron objects and leads have been discovered from this layer, but none of them are burnt or charred. It is an enigma," Dr Samanta says.

By EMILY ANDREWS and GABBY MORGAN Ball girl: Bethanie Mattek-Sands wears an unusual bespoke outfit for her first match at Wimbledon today A quick glance and you might have mistaken her for some sort of quirky pop star. Not for nothing is Bethanie Mattek-Sands known as the Lady Gaga of tennis. The American baffled fans as she stepped out on court yesterday in war paint and a white bomber jacket decorated with spray-painted white tennis balls chopped in half. And when she removed her coat, the white dress she had on underneath appeared to have lost a sleeve. All white? The white fringed jacket was created by Lady Gaga's own fashion designers The outfit complemented an armful of colourful tattoos, socks pulled up to the knees and the face paint. The 26-year-old claimed that was actually a couple of anti-glare patches. Miss Mattek-Sands had already turned heads with an equally bizarre tennis ball outfit at a pre-Wimbledon party last week, which was designed by one of Lady Gaga's own dressers. Ball-girl: Mattek-Sands arrives for her match against Japan's Misaki Doi British designer Alex Noble had again been commissioned for yesterday's outfit. Unfortunately for Miss Mattek-Sands, it failed to inspire her to victory. Despite going into the match as the firm favourite and 30th seed, she lost in three sets to Japan's Misaki Doi. And her decorum appeared to desert her as she refused to shake the umpire's hand at the end. The tongue-in-cheek number is just another example of how players are working around the rules to make fashion more prominent on court. Skin art: The tennis player shows off her tattoos in a one-shouldered top On Monday, Venus Williams wore a Greek-inspired romper suit by her own brand Eleven. And high-end label Ralph Lauren have designed new uniforms for the ball-boys. Mattek-Sands said last month: 'I don't think I can really challenge the colour rule right now. You know, I got to figure something out. Obviously the white, you got to work with a lot of the cuts. 'Obviously I'll be wearing my high socks. But yeah, it's always challenging to think of new things for Wimbledon. When fashion meets function: Serena, left, and Venus Williams are trendy sisters at the tournament source: dailymail
