    Sew and Tell- Baby Week
    seving

Ahh, it feels so good to get some of the things done that have been in my WIP pile for the baby. My to do basket is almost looking, dare i say, empty!!!!

    seving

I have acquired several cute flannel prints from Joann's with the intentions of making lovey blankets. Some i have had in stash for a long time, like the baby food jars print. Lovies are our favorite and every one we have given as a gift has been favorites for the new families too!!! They are versatile and warm and just so cute! These were made with two flannel prints(i am loving the animals)...squared...sewn right sides facing...turned out and top stitched! Easy Peasy.

    seving

I thought the baby food print would be good for some burp clothes. You can never have too many with a little on, i think....and all the ones i had made for my other two have since worn out. New ones were in order. I cut these into 8 pieces and then used the same sewing method as the lovey blankets.

    seving

Oh, and last but not least the Katie Jump Rope Hooter Hider!!!! I love this print. I used the tutorial here to make it, as i have for all the others i have made. Pretty simple and straightforward...but with pregnancy brain i am afraid i did some incorrect measuring. I am not sure it turned out the way it was supposed to, but i will reserve my final judgment until there is baby to nurse under it.

i am so thankful for Amylouwho and the motivation she provides!!! I am joining in this week at sew and tell. There are so many great finishes, as usual. Go and have a look and give them a little comment love!

Brave Kelly Brook smiles for the cameras on her first night out since tragic baby loss
By SIMON CABLE and ANDREA MAGRATH
©Brave smile: Kelly Brook is spotted out in London for the first time since her baby loss
She was left reeling after the tragic loss of her baby five months into pregnancy earlier this month.
But Kelly Brook mustered the strength to put on a brave face as she faced the cameras for the first time since her heartbreaking loss.
The 31-year-old model smiled brightly for photographers as she headed out in London just over a fortnight since losing her unborn baby girl.
©Moving forward: The leggy model put on a daring animal print dress for her first night out
Kelly ventured out with the support of friends after two weeks of laying low at her farmhouse in Kent, where she was being comforted by family and friends including fiancé Thom Evans.
But the beautiful brunette seemed determined to make her first tentative steps towards moving forward with her life, stepping out in a slinky pink animal-print dress and towering heels.
Kelly appeared to be enjoying her night out in London as she chatted to her girlfriends in the back of a cab, while fiancé Thom was nowhere to be seen.
©Heartache: Kelly lost her baby five months into her pregnancy earlier this month
The day before Kelly was spotted out for the first time since the terrible news emerged on May 10.
She ventured out on her own on a shopping trip near her home.
Wearing a backless summer frock and a Panama hat, the Piranha: 3D star was pictured carrying groceries to her car, including a large bunch of roses.
Miss Brook was almost five months pregnant when she lost the daughter she was expecting with ex-Scottish rugby international Thom Evans, 26.
©Tragic loss: Kelly looked subdued as she carried a large bunch of roses to her car
The former TV presenter was said to be ‘over the moon’ at the prospect of becoming a mother for the first time.
She had announced she was pregnant after only four months of dating Evans.
After news that she had lost the child, friends described her as ‘devastated’. One said: ‘She’s at home and she’s being looked after by Thom and her mum Sandra.
‘There’s nothing you can say to anyone at a time like this – she just needs to be allowed some time alone to grieve.’

  • Bedside lamp makeover...

    Bedside lamp makeover...
    Bedside lamp makeover
Another wee makeover and a pretty dramatic one actually if only I had taken taken photos before I ripped the shade apart to show you....
but here is the old fabric which is terribly faded and stained and now I can't think why I put up with its sorry state for so long. It also used to have a blue fringing along the bottom edge the same shade as the braiding.

    Bedside lamp makeover
I used one of the unpicked segments as a pattern and used 4 different fabrics on the main shade in similar aqua colours. Above is a Michael Miller dot and an Amy Butler print.
    Bedside lamp makeover
And on this side a Heather Bailey print .
    Bedside lamp makeover
Some pretty ric-rac trim around the top or crown of the lamp.....

    Bedside lamp makeover
For the bottom edge I used some leftover bias binding and added the turquoise and green beading but when I put it back on the lamp base it just didn't look right... sort of like it had a crop top on.... so I added the white pompom trim which added the extra length it seemed to need. I was going to remove the beading once I'd added the pom-pom trim but have decided to leave it and it adds a bit of sparkle and did take quite a bit of time to sew on.

    Bedside lamp makeover
Now the base was originally a very dark brown so I gave it a couple of coats of white gloss spray paint which I must say looks way better than the drab dark brown.
Now I have never spray painted anything until this project and I learnt the hard way to always read directions when trying a new technique or product. It says on the side of the can to shake for a minute before spraying and because I didn't do this to begin with I was wondering why I wasn't getting good coverage. :-D

New face, new man: Shane Warne plays smooth-faced English gent as he accompanies Elizabeth Hurley to Elton John's White Tie and Tiara Ball
    By SARAH BULL
©Red carpet debut: Elizabeth Hurley and Shane Warne leave the model's London home to head to Sir Elton John's White Tie and Tiara Ball
Shane Warne's new appearance continues to baffle and entertain in equal measure.
The 41-year-old Australian cricket star played the smooth-faced English gent as he escorted his girlfriend Elizabeth Hurley to Elton John's White Tie and Tiara Ball.
The pair, who have been dating since last December, cut quite a dash as they headed to the annual fundraising event held at Sir Elton and partner David Furnish's Windsor Home but the main talking point was Mr Warne's distinctly smoother face.
    ©
Smooth operator: Shane Warne as he was in 2005 and how he now looks six years on
The cricketer, who has built up a reputation as a stereotypical macho Australian 'bloke', appeared to be wearing make up to boost his looks.
He had his eyebrows shaped into a definite arch, perhaps styled by his own girlfriend, together with a goofy smoothed over hairstyle.
Also noteworthy was his distinctly smoother looking face, particularly the area around his eyes with the disappearance of his crow's feet.
©You old smoothie: Shane Warne's altered appearance has led to speculation from some observers
©Posed up: The couple, who have been dating since last December, looked smart in their outfits
In recent weeks observers have noted that the cricketer's formerly weathered, rough and ready appearance has altered somewhat thanks primarily to his weight loss, though he has rubbished any suggestion of surgery.
Last week, cosmetic surgeon Dr Shahab Mahdi told the Daily Star: "The difference in Shane's appearance is dramatic. In my opinon it looks as though he has had a facelift.'
His army of followers are not convinced either, accusing Shane of having a little help in the anti-ageing department.
©The morning after! Shane Warne didn't look like he was recovering from a hangover today while strolling around London
©Making a statement: Elizabeth opted for an animal-print gown which featured a long trailing train
One fan took to Twitter, saying: 'He looks like a waxwork, all plucked and sculptured.'
Another blogger from the social networking site wrote: 'How much surgery has shane warne had? Lol, the male version of jordan!'
However the 41-year-old bowler defended himself, retaliating with: 'Questions re faclift/ Botox etc are absolute rubbish.'
    ©
Home and dry: Liz Hurley wears Shane Warne's dinner jacket as they arrive back at her Chelsea home
©New look: The cricketer has shed his rough and ready image for a more dapper, smooth look
The sportsman is believed to have lost around 22lbs over the last few months, largely due to his girlfriend's influence.
In fact, Shane has now completely changed the way he thinks about food, as he showed on his Twitter page when he asked his followers for advice on what to eat.
He tweeted: 'Feel like a hot pie with copious amounts of sauce with crinkle cut chips!! What the best pie?'
©Stunning: Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie attended the event with their mother Sarah Ferguson
©Hosts for the night: Sir Elton and partner David Furnish pose for photographers inside the party
But Shane then added just minutes later: 'NO Shane!! 78kg is target currently 82.5. Settle on a protein shake with an apple and banana - sob.'
In the fashion stakes Elizabeth stuck to her usual formula in a floor-sweeping animal-print gown.
She admitted to her Twitter followers earlier in the day that she had been struggling to decide what to wear.
She wrote: 'Off to Elton & David's White Tie & Tiara Aids fundraiser. Can't decide which dress......'
Meanwhile, Shane looked sharp in a black tuxedo which highlighted his recent weight loss.
Elizabeth and Shane looked happier than ever as they attended the ball, keeping their arms around each other and smiling for photographers.
And, in a recent interview, Shane said he was looking forward to spending more time with his gorgeous girlfriend.
©Smile, Boris! Becker and wife Sharlely 'Lilly' Kerssenberg arrive at Sir Elton's Windsor home for the annual event
He said: 'She's a lovely lady. We get on really well and I'm spending a lot of time in England this summer, working for Sky.
'We'll wait and see what happens between Liz and I - but at the moment things are great.'
Earlier in the day, Shane was photographed arriving at Elizabeth's London home with a huge grin on his face and carrying a bag of golf clubs.
Elizabeth, 46, announced in December that she had split from husband Arun Nayar, after pictures emerged of her kissing cricketer Shane Warne in a hotel in London.
Following the pictures' publication, both Hurley and Warne hastily issued statements revealing that their respective marriages had been over for some time.
Since then, the new couple have been making headlines for their on/off romance, rendezvous in Australia and India and tabloid rumours of his alleged infidelity.
Elizabeth married Indian textile heir Nayar at Sudely Castle, near Winchcombe, Gloucestershire, in March 2007 - and had a traditional Hindu wedding at Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, India.

New love? Glee star Matthew Morrison arrived hand-in-hand with a mystery woman
The ceremonies were attended by numerous celebrities, including Sir Elton John, who gave the bride away.
Announcing her separation from Arun, Liz tweeted: 'Not a great day. For the record, my husband Arun & I separated a few months ago. Our close family & friends were aware of this.'
She added: 'Painful, sad days. Arun & I separated for private reasons but FTR he has been a great father to our son Damian & will always be in his life.'

©Brunettes have more fun: Alexa Chung and Nancy Del'Ollio were among the invited guests
©Dressed in black: The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo star Noomi Rapace arrives
Hours later, Shane, 41, took to his own blog to confirm that his tumultuous marriage to wife Simone was also over.
In a statement he said: 'Sadly and unfortunately, Simone and I split up a while ago, our close friends and family were informed at that time.
'It is a private matter so we did not make it public. We remain friends and will continue to be good parents.'
A notorious philanderer, Shane split from Simone, the mother of his children Brooke, 13, Jackson, 11 and Summer, 8, after a string of affairs, including a notorious sex text scandal in 2000 which saw him stripped of his Australian vice-captaincy.

  • Keeping it brief: The Saturdays play live in tiny shorts as Nicola Roberts gets over nerves to make solo onstage debut

Keeping it brief: The Saturdays play live in tiny shorts as Nicola Roberts gets over nerves to make solo onstage debut
    By JODY THOMPSON
©Fierce: The Saturdays took to the stage in Newcastle last night all wearing tiny shorts - apart from a more bashful Rochelle Wiseman (far right)
They've never been afraid of wearing skimpy outfits onstage - but The Saturdays outdid themselves on stage in Newcastle last night.
The girl group were sporting the tiniest of shorts as they played a short set at a gig thrown by the city's radio station, Metro Radio Live.
But it seemed that Rochelle Wiseman was not having one of her more confident days and wore pale denim skintight jeans instead.
©Work it: (L-R) Mollie King, Una Healy, Vanessa White, Frankie Sandford and Rochelle were playing a short set at Metro Radio Live at Newcastle Arena - a kind of urban indoor one-day pop festival
However, one person who had most definitely overcome her nerves was Nicola Roberts, who made her live solo debut last night, just days after saying she was dreading going on without her Girls Aloud bandmates.
Talking to MTV earlier this week, she'd revealed: 'I'm nervous and I'm dreading the night before. I know I'm going to be like losing half a stone in weight overnight, so I'm going to have to get myself into the zone.'
She added: 'There does feel like there is a little bit of extra pressure, because it is just me and it feels a little bit like, is that enough, is it enough to just look at that?'
©Solo debut: Nicola Roberts got over her nerves to play her first ever live gig without Girls Aloud at the show
©Dainty doll: The star threw some shapes as she performed and totally won the screaming crowd over
However, she seemed to quash her butterflies and impressed the crowd, singing debut solo single Beat Of My Drum in a tiny red and pink dress accessorised with a kooky headscarf and multicoloured strappy heels.
Other acts playing the bash included dubstep queen Katy B, Chipmunk, Sophie Ellis Bextor, The Feeling, The Wanted, rapper Example, hot new band The Overtones and Amy Winehouse's goddaughter Dionne Bromfield.
Meanwhile, Nicola has been explaining why she chose to take such a different direction musically with her new single.
©Strutting her stuff: Mollie was wearing titchy high-waisted orange shorts and a low cut see-through blue vest top that showed off her black bra
Working with hot underground music producer Diplo, she explained: 'I tried to drum in to him that I wanted these quirky dollops of sound like M.I.A. (who he's worked with before) or Major Lazer (his Jamaican dancehall project).
'Don’t try and make this record come back like a commercial, just-for-radio song with 500 dance synths all over it ‘cause it’s not where I’m trying to go.'
Scouse beauty Nicola also says she feels like she's unleashed her singing voice properly for the first time too.
©On song: Frankie belts out one of The Saturday's singles wearing tight striped shorts and a blue top with a distressed denim top half, as Una sports ripped denim and a low cut purple top showing off her red bra
She said: 'I was sick to death of singing the quiet, whispery parts. I was like, no, f*** this, I’m going to sing!'
Talking to MTV, Nicola said it was good that it was so different to Girls Aloud: 'It was important my first single was different to anything else around.
'I love that it’s a song everyone can sing and dance along to.
©Earning her stripes: Rochelle has teamed her jeans with a leather jacket and a midriff-exposing tiger print top
©Thighs the limit: Una strikes a pose at the Newcastle Arena
Nicola Roberts will be releasing her debut album ‘Cinderella’s Eyes’ in October.
Meanwhile, the Daily Mirror is reporting that Girls Aloud are heading back into the studio in January.
But apparently, the girls are ditching their former producers, hitmakers Xenomania.
A source said: 'At the moment the Girls are really excited about their new beginning, although they are scratching their heads over who will create signature hits for them.
'They’re excited they’re going to be making a fresh start together on this next adventure of their lives.
'In six months time it’ll be back to work as normal – they are itching to get back in the studio.'
©An audience with...Sophie Ellis Bextor was also on the bill at the bash
The band are reportedly set to reform to celebrate their 10th anniversary next year at a special festival for the London 2012 Olympics at the O2 Arena.
Nicola though is onstage again for a hometown gig at Liverpool's Radio City Live tonight, before playing T4 On The Beach on 10 July.
Beat Of My Drum is then released on 18 July.
Meanwhile, MTV Music show On Set With Nicola Roberts is on at 2pm tomorrow.
And the next Metro Radio Live is on 7 July and features JLS and Olly Murs.

    School Table Topper
    seving
I made this little table topper last week. I used a charm pack of Momma's Apron Strings fabric. The colors are so pretty and the gingham's and fruit were so fun. I love how a charm pack makes the process so much faster. I was able to get from sewn to quilting this in one day. I used some of my other favorites for backing and binding, because if i love them i am realizing i should use them. So the biding is a yellow and white ladybug print from Flutterby and the back is some leftover Wee Play floral in green that i had from another project. I was inspired by Rita and her beautiful straight line quilting so i tried one of her methods and it turned out great. I think i am discovering that stippling might not be for me, straight is so much less frustrating. The quilting mirrors the gingham's in the fabric. It was a pretty gloomy dark day outside so the light and color is not quite right...but it can't be sunny every day.

    Shirts for me
Sewing I embellished this shirt today, it was super quick and I think it turned out super cute. The shirt I found on clearance at Target, and the quilt piece (which is hand pieced, I find that amazing) was given to me.

SewingAnd this is a shirt I embellished awhile ago and I love it. All I did for this one was find some flower print fabrics from my stash that I thought would work and cut flowers out and a few leaves, and then I like to use Steam a seam 2 for appliqueing. I like it because it is sticky on both sides and can be repositioned before ironing. I had been looking for the perfect striped shirt for awhile, and one day walked into Rue 21 and they had ones like this for $5, perfect.
Two one of a kind shirts for around $10 is my kind of project!

    John Cameron Mitchell

    John Cameron Mitchell

I’ve just finished a colossal feature article on John Cameron Mitchell for my newspaper’s weekend magazine and, if possible, writing that story has made me love him more. More than Tiger blood even. I will post an online version of said feature once its run in print, but in the meantime, here’s an update on his next project – an adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s How To Talk To Girls At Parties.

Seriously, Cameron Mitchell and Gaiman collaborating? I haven't heard of a duo this awesome since... well, lets just say I hope this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship. How To Talk To Girls At Parties is an award-winning sci-fi short story written by Gaiman in 2006 and is set in 70s Britain, when two teenage boys go to a party to meet girls and find out they’re actually aliens. I quizzed Cameron Mitchell about the project at the end of our interview, so he only limited time to talk about it. Alas, here’s what he had to say:

Jane Storm: Now, I heard you're directing Neil Gaiman's short story, How To Talk To Girls At Parties. What can you tell me about that?
John Cameron Mitchell: I’m on the verge of starting the script with Neil (Gaiman). We’ve been talking about it a lot and we’re on the same page. It’s like British with aliens and that goes back to my roots of sci-fi and B movies as a kid.

Jane Storm: It's an awesome lil' story. Were you a fan of Gaiman's work before coming onboard this?
John Cameron Mitchell: I’ve always been aware of him, but not his work. It’s fun to get to know it and I’ve been a fan of comic books as a kid but dropped it when Reagan came in. It’s fun to see that adult comic underground he exemplifies, you know, along with Alan Moore and Frank Miller. They use the comic book super hero themes but it has these different ideas and adult humour.

This is pretty different territory for Cameron Mitchell but as he proved with Rabbit Hole, he’s a director who’s willing to try new things. I mean, after a film about a transgender rock singer and another which pushed the boundaries of explicit sex in mainstream cinema, who would have picked him for a muted drama about parental loss and love? Then to follow that up with a B-movie-esque teen sci-fi... the man is versatile. How To Talk To Girls At Parties hasn’t been tagged with a release date yet (even the basic dets aren’t on IMDB Pro) and with rumours still swirling around about whether it will be live-action or animated, it’s clear we will have a long wait before we get any more solid info on how the project is progressing. The bottom line is, stay tuned.

Note: The second image is a limited edition poster by Camilla d'Errico based on Gaiman's short story.

    Kiss Nail Dress

Hello everyone! It's been a while since I've posted - I've been keeping busy! Today I want to talk about my experience with the Kiss Nail Dress kit that I received in my Love VoxBox from Influenster! I received this product complimentary, for testing and review purposes, and I'm absolutely thrilled to share with you!

Kiss Nail Dress kits equal "ultimate fashion for tips and toes!" I adored the sparkly, animal-print pattern I received, called Bodysuit. Applying these nail stickers could NOT be easier:

    1. Peel the sticker off the backing
    2. Line up the sticker on your nail
    3. Smooth down, watching for bumps or air bubbles
    4. Fold over the excess
    5. File!

I had so much fun applying these nails one night when my friends were hanging out in my apartment. They laughed at my exclamations of "Wow!" and "This is so easy!" Sure, the pattern was not something I would normally gravitate to, but I ended up loving it!

According to Kiss: With 28 strips in each package, you can cut up your extras to create designs that can be used on top of polished or artificial nails. Nail Dress doesn’t dry out the way other polish strips can, so you can save them to use on your next DIY mani. A nail design booklet is included in each package, just in case you need a little inspiration.

I kept my nails dressed for over a week - that means multiple showers, hand-washings, etc. They stayed perfect the whole time! I'm looking forward to trying other Kiss Nail Dress styles (with 18 different patterns, the possibilities are endless!). They can be purchased in major chain drugstores and mass retailers like WalMart, CVS, and Walgreens, and they cost around $6.99.

Thanks to Influenster and Kiss for sending this wonderful product my way! I was lucky enough to be able to attend NYFW for the first time this year (eek), and my experience was definitely incredible. From the street style photographers everywhere outside Lincoln Center ready to shoot you when you walk out, to the crazy amazing designs inside the shows, I had a blast. For those of you who didn't get the opportunity to attend, here's a recap of some of my favorite shows.

  • Another something just for me...

    Another something just for me...
    Summer skirt
A quick and easy summer skirt made up in a "New York" themed print. I am not usually drawn to buying themed fabrics but this one seemed to stand out to me as one that would make a unique skirt. If it had a New Zealand theme or Kiwiana theme I would have steered well clear so if you're from the US I can understand if it's not your cup of tea.
Anyway I'm really pleased with how this skirt came out and how quickly it came together as it took only 2 - 3 hours to whip up. It is quite a flattering style that sits nicely on my hips and therefore not cutting into my waist. The only thing I changed is to make it a little shorter so it comes to my knees.

For a bit of added interest I added some mini blue ric-rac around the bottom edge of the top band and normal sized red ric-rac around the hemline. I used an invisible zipper on the side seam using this tutorial which shows just how easy these zippers are to install. The pattern is  "New Look" no.6595 if you're interested in making this skirt too. Now all I need is a couple of tops or three to go with it!

After winning six gongs at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night, it looks like Justin Bieber has decided he deserves a holiday.
The 17-year-old pop star was pictured heading to the beach in Hawaii yesterday after jetting to Hawaii with girlfriend Selena Gomez.
Stripped to the waist, the Canadian star showed off his rock hard stomach in a pair of bathing shorts teamed with flip flops and white sunglasses.
Selena, meanwhile, was wearing a pink bikini top and Daisy Dukes, and was carrying a leopard print bag as she took a walk with her other half.
Als on show was a new tattoo on Bieber's toros under his arm, in addition to one he got when was 16 of a bird on his waistline.

Justin and Selena, 18, went fully public with their romance at the awards show in Las Vegas - sharing kisses and hugs in the audience.
The young lovebirds smooched as Bieber picked up his six awards and dominated the star-studded ceremony.
Gomez appeared to be making a good impression on her boyfriend's family, as she sat with her arm around Bieber's mother, Pattie Mallette.
She was, however, notably absent from her beau's two acceptance speeches.
Bieber, who was wearing a gold tuxedo jacket, grinned as he took home six awards during Sunday's ceremony.

The pint-size pop star shared a slightly awkward hug with Gomez as his name was read out as the winner of digital artist of the year.
He thanked his family, his fans, manager Scooter Braun and Usher - who signed the youngster to his record label and turned him into a superstar.
'Basically everyone who helped me get out of my hometown and live my dream,' he said.

Bieber and Gomez made up for their awkward moment as the former YouTube sensation was named the top new artist of the year.
Bieber leaned in for a passionate kiss with his girlfriend and she beamed with delight as she watch her man on stage.
The Canadian pop sensation thanked 'god' as he picked up his second award and paid tribute to his proud mother.

'Mom - you've been amazing. You've been travelling with me, putting up with all my crap,' he said.
Bieber also won awards for top pop album, top streaming artist, top song and top social media artist.
Meanwhile, the first trailer for Bieber's women's fragrance Someday has been revealed.

©Flying high: In the trailer, the pair are seen floating around in the sky
The advert, which has been labelled 'ridiculous' by some, sees a young girl spray the fragrance on her neck, at which point Bieber appears next to her before whisking her up into the sky and flying through the air.
Talking about the fragrance recently, Bieber told WWD: 'Let’s be real, the way a girl smells is very important to a guy!
'I have such a deep connection with my fans, so creating a fragrance that I personally love is another way I can bring them closer to my world.'

  • The Cream Tunic and 7 Little Facts

The Cream Tunic and 7 Little Facts

    T-shirt for Barbie

They were everywhere, I tell you! I didn't stand a chance. Especially because I've been on the hunt for some new button-downs since I saw these great looks over at Amber's Notebook. Needless to say, I got little carried away...But, I NEEDED these, right? A work investment or something. Plus, I have a presentation on Tuesday, so I was thinking I would go classic with a white button-down, tan wide-leg pants, and a brown skinny belt.

Ok, I have to admit I'm pretty domestically challenged (I had to ask my brother how to thread my sewing machine), but something about the fashion-blogging community has inspired me to take my wardrobe into my own hands. Ever since I saw this post over at This Time Tomorrow, I've been looking for a black, floral-print strapless dress. I haven't had much luck finding exactly what I wanted, so when I saw the long skirt on this vintage dress, I decided that I could make my own. Seems simple enough, right? (It helps to look with your imagination.)

It might be a week or so until I get to show you the results because I'm currently facing 10 hellish days of finals, presentations, essays, and case write-ups before I get to graduate. Not to mention, the Stanley Cup Playoffs are in full swing and are completely a legit distraction. (Got to go to Game 1 Pens vs. Senators btw!) I've also made some good healthy eating progress! Ahh... soo many updates to share, so little time.

I Just Made My $200 Tunic Go On Sale!

Turns out I’m pretty much shit outta luck on locating the cream tunic that I mentioned below, which naturally only makes me want it more. (I’m troubled like that.) I even mathematically justified the purchase by returning a winter-weather shirt that had yet to be worn. And, being the economics guru that I am (thanks college), I decided that it only made sense to consider the money I got back for the shirt a sunk cost and just pretend that it was orignally put towards the tunic. So, since sunk costs don't really count, I am now FORCED (by the rules of economics, of course) to recognize the true cost of the tunic as the purchase price minus the money I got back on the previous t-shirt. And, TADA!

But either way, it was all for nothing… well, at least until I cross-paths with something else that preys on my materialistic side. Note: Jammer cannot be held responsible for any flaws in the previous reasoning. Blame the system. In the mean time, I think I’m going to make a quick run to Forever 21...

And, this means I get to share 7 little fun facts about what makes me, me:

    1. When I was little I wanted to grow up to be Marika and Barbie. Hey, we all had dreams...
    2. I can't sit still. No seriously, I'm the annoying girl in class who is always tapping her pen. (Sorry about that.)
    3. I'm about to become the annoying girl at work who is always tapping her pen. I'm graduating with a job in accounting. Looking back, it's not at all what I wished I would've done, which is a bummer, but then I remember I'm only 22 and still can go after what I want.
    4. I have a fear of snakes and possibly commitment. (My longest relationship ws 3ish months, but I'm trying to stretch it to 4.)
    5. I'm a total Star Wars geek. In fact, I think Jedi Knights and all superheroes alike are pretty badass.
    6. I would take watching the game at a bar with a group of friends over some flashy nightclub any day of the week.
    7. Never seen an episode of the Jersey Shore. Believe it.

Also, thank you for all of the cooking advice! I can't wait to check out all of the websites, books, and recipes! Don't worry, I'll have a fire extinguisher on hand at all times.

Near East: Ancient theatre of Magarsus ready to open curtains
The theater of the ancient city of Magarsus, located in the southern province of Adana’s Karataş district, is getting ready to host culture and art events soon. Excavation work has been continuing in the ancient city for two years.

Magarsus dates back to the 5th century B.C. and its theater is 2,500 years old. The excavations have unearthed a large section of the theater, which is a typical Hellenistic-era theater.

The sea-view ancient theater, which is 150 meters in length, 30 meters in width and has a capacity of some 3,000 people, will serve culture and art events when the work is completed and the theater will once again open its curtains after 2,500 years.

Adana Culture and Tourism Director Sabri Tari said excavations had been ongoing at many historical sites around Adana in recent years, and for the last two years, a large part of the ancient theater of Magarsus had come to light.

“This year the theater will be completely unearthed, including the stage part, and opened to tourism.

Although the city was magnificent and important enough to print its own money, today only its city walls and theater survive. But when you stroll around the streets of the district, you can find the traces of Magarsus in the gardens and walls of almost every house. The theater, which has been unearthed during excavations, is as big and magnificent as the Ephesus, Side and Aspendos theaters,” Tari said, adding the theater would open very soon. “When the work is done, the theater will regain its heyday, hosting new plays and welcoming audiences. You will close your eyes in its seats and hear the music of a play or an orchestra on the stage. Our next goal is to organize an event in Magarsus in the coming months to promote the ancient theater to the world.”

Magarsus was the religious center of Mallus, which was one of the most important cities of Cilicia, famous for its ancient temples.

  • thrifting, fabric, and a new bag

thrifting, fabric, and a new bag
Sewing I continue to go thrifting on Mondays and I keep finding awesome things. Yesterday it was a never been used vintage towel and the cutest tablecloth. I got all excited when I saw the tablecloth, I love the big flowers and the colors.

SewingHere are some recent fabric purchases. I snatched up some of Anna Maria Horner's innocent crush, I love, love, love the star burst print. Those bird cages are from JoAnn's.
I have been having a crush on gingham lately and found the grey and tangerine colors and had to have it.

SewingI was near IKEA yesterday and had a bit of extra time so I went in to check out the fabrics and found this wood grain fabric, and some cute placemats to repurpose.

    Sewing
I was excited and made up a couple bags like this with the placemats last night.
They are kinda funky and I love it. The back of the bag is the same stripe as the handle. I originally was going to leave it kinda plain, and then decided it needed a little embellishment, so I made a flower pin to put on it.
Now, I am off to cut out new bags as I have aquired a new pile of upholstery fabrics (for free I might add!) And I am so happy to have my sewing mojo back!

Oh fabric heaven!! There was a fantastic quilt shop by my sisters house, and i could not wait to go. When we walked in i was blown away by the selection and how beautiful everything was. Some have a purpose and others just looked good together and some i got for no other reason than i loved them.
sevingSince it was vacation...Chris was very sweet to let me get whatever struck my fancy. Now if i had really bought everything, in the quantity i would have wanted i just might have broken the bank. But i practiced a little restraint. A little! Ok a very little!
sevingThese batiks are destined for a quilt idea Avery had. I hope to get to work on that one first. About 1 year ago she dictated to me a idea she had for a dolphin quilt, and i have been scared of it ever since. But when Colleen and i saw these fabrics we laid it all out on the floor and the dolphin quilt came together. See the ones on the left..they are for the rocks, water and sky. I love that these look like "sea trees" as avery calls them. And the others are for the applique parts.

these are all from IKEA. I love that you can get fabrics there. They are heavier weight but might someday have a use. I have that kids fabric with hippos in green also. It is so bright and cute.

Once in awhile i am lucky enough to find a sale on curtains like these ones above. Clearance is great.

i love these...especially the grey and the green together. I love how "vintagey" they look.

And this one...this was the reason i was going to that store. This beautiful cloud print by Kaffe Fassett. I don't know what i am going to do with it. Maybe a little quilt with these other two colors. i heart fabric.
