    New Interior of the Bank

As the sector of financial services is very abstract to most people, the main challenge with regards to the contents was to develop innovative and exciting narrative formats that create a tangible experience. Design wise we wanted to avoid permanent spatial logos that dominate and frame the space with simple 3D extrusion, thus, we had to find a subtle though still clearly recognisable way of translating it into spatial architecture.

As part of the redesign of their corporate headquarters, Deutsche Bank took the opportunity to create a permanent brand space. The brief was to shape an environment where their well-known logo designed by Anton Stankowski is embodied within the space and where customers, employees and external visitors would be able to experience and to connect with the Deutsche Bank brand. All relevant aspects of the company, beginning with its history and extending to its various business divisions and their contributions to society today should be communicated to the visitor.

Using the concept of anamorphosis abstract architectural structures have been designed to only reveal themselves as the logo when viewed from specific sweet spots. Parts of the logo sculptures are formed by incorporated media installations that allow the visitor to physically experience and interact with the brand. One of the sculptures is touch-sensitive – here networked information bits can be explored. The second reacts to the visitor, whose physical motions trigger the display of statistic data. The third, a kinetic sculpture communicates the brand values precision and passion in a metaphorical, emotional way.

Since the opening on April 6, more than 20,000 visitors came to see the Brand Space. Board members use the space to hold receptions, functions such as HR are using it for employee activities, bank managers invite partners and clients, and the press department welcomes journalists in the Brand Space. Moreover, marketeers from international companies come to experience the space, as it’s the first brand space for a financial services brand.

Missing Russell: Katy Perry wore black stockings and a suspender skirt as she arrived in Tokyo on a bullet train earlier today
She had earlier tweeted how 'sad' she was feeling after her husband Russell Brand was deported from Japan.
But Katy Perry seemed determined to show him what he was missing as she strolled through Tokyo train station later in the day.
The 26-year-old singer pulled out all the stops in a black and white checked suspender skirt, black stockings and platform heels.
©Crushed: Perry looked distinctively melancholy without Brand, who had been deported by the Japanese authorities due to a criminal record
And she looked distinctly melancholy, although she gamely signed autographs and chatted to fans.
Earlier in the day, Brand had been deported by Japanese authorities due to his criminal record.
He had arrived with Perry to watch her perform a show on the Asian leg of her California Dreams tour.
Perry wrote on her Twitter account: ‘So... my husband just got deported from Japan. I am so. sad. I brought him all this way to show him my favourite place #tokyodreamscrushed.'
©Brace face: Perry managed to raise a smile as she chatted and signed autographs for waiting fans
She earlier expressed her indignation at Brand's treatment, tweeting: ‘It was for priors from over 10 years ago! #mamanothappy!'
Perry then campaigned to her followers to try and get her husband released and said: ‘#FREE@RUSTYROCKETS! RT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!’
But she later seemed to accept the situation. 'But of COURSE I ♥ my Japanese fans & the show #MUSTGOON no matter the daily aftershocks or husband kidnappings! #it'snotrightbutit'sokay,' she wrote.
Brand had earlier tried to see the funny side of his situation as he was held at Tokyo airport.
©Fan love: Perry gamely posed for pictures with fans in Japan, which she says is her 'favourite place'
He tweeted: ‘Planning escape from Japanese custody. It's bloody hard to dig a tunnel with a chopstick.’
The actor then posted a picture of himself with a chopstick and the caption: ‘Alcatraz! Shawshank Redemption! And now this! Ah, sweet blue bird of freedom!’
Russell, a self-confessed former heroin addict, was arrested in 2001 charged with criminal damage and indecent exposure when he stripped naked while covering the May Day protests for MTV, the charges were later dropped.
The comedian, who has been arrested 12 times, was arrested on suspected battery charges after he allegedly attacked a photographer who was taking pictures of Perry last year, he was released after posting $20,000 bail.

    CitizenM

CitizenM is the hotel made of ready modules of rooms.

The hotel of new type is constructed in Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam. The design of the project was developed by the Holland architectural studio, “Concrete”.

Each of two hundred thirty rooms has been constructed and arranged by furniture at factory. Then the received elements have been made together as containers by the ship — and the hotel has turned out.

The concept assumes reduction of all unnecessary expenses and removal of all unnecessary details. As a result of visitors receive magnificent conditions and comfort for very moderate price. In hotel of 230 numbers, 14 square metres everyone by the area.

    Amsterdam hotel

All elements-rooms are made at own factory SitizenM, are mobile and are easily transported. Rooms are placed over the building ground floor where the dynamical lobby is placed, a drawing room, creative rooms, restaurant and a bar.

Company Concrete has thought up the concept which has defined new possibilities for creative process and a new way for all involved technologies.

CitizenM wishes to clone the concept and to construct more than 20 hotels next year, with use of technology of blocks. The second hotel will be constructed in Amsterdam, the third - in Glasgow. Other European cities now are in the field of research.

    Schiphol Airport

As, according to owners CitizenM, everything, that is necessary for us during a stop in road is an excellent bed and a pure bathroom, they have concentrated on these details.

To save space, subjects from a bathroom are placed separately in a room. In the big glass cylinders are a shower and a toilet, in the small cylinder the bowl and additional space for storage of personal things is hidden.

    Interior hotel

The space effective utilisation has given a life to effective decisions; for example, the mirror simultaneously is a place for storage. In a steel framework the mirror in full growth which, on the other hand, consists of a mirror for a make-up with illumination, departments for storage of sanitary articles, in hotel available the European, English and American sockets is concluded.

On either side of a bed night little tables are located. Under a bed the huge locker for suitcase storage in an open kind or other personal things is placed. Sockets on a forward part of a bed allow to connect your laptop or phone.

    Hotel Holland

Designers have tried to create as much as possible house conditions — zones for work, rest, meal. The design of rooms is created together with furniture brand Vitra. The furniture will periodically vary, that will allow Vitra to organise additional show-rum of production.

The philosophy of a new hotel brand is that:

  • Uranium's Impact on Heavy Music, in the words of Mistress Juliya

Uranium's Impact on Heavy Music, in the words of Mistress Juliya
©After the demise of Headbangers Ball, Mistress Juliya felt the necessity of creating a TV show that would present Heavy Music in a raw, unscripted and aggressive way.
After gaining massive popularity via the Internet, Much Music TV approached Juliya and gave her a small budget to produce a show for Fuse TV. Juliya's concept was to take her show on the road and present the masses with an unpolished, yet very well thought out show that featured the artists in their natural environment and not inside a TV studio. In June of 2002 Uranium premiered and Juliya started gaining popularity within the Heavy Music population.
For the next three years Juliya managed to help Uranium become a household name in the industry thanks to her "in your face" style and the great chemistry she had with the artists that she would interview for the show. The show came to an end in January of 2005, when Fuse TV brought in new management who did not appreciate or understand the value of that the show had within the Heavy Music world.
    ©
After 6 years of silence, it was time for Uranium to make a comeback but this time Juliya had to do it bigger and more personal, in order to remind the fans that her love for Heavy Music will never die! Here is what she had to say about this:
©"Uranium has always been my baby! First it was on TV, then it went away... Then I got the opportunity to work with Livenation on putting together the Uranium Tour! Which when people hear the Uranium brand, they know they are Heavy quality fucking music! No matter what type of Metal it is, we are going to bring it to you the right way. So we worked really hard in putting together a package that had an amazing headliner, that has always represented the Uranium brand. Black Label Society has been a staple on the Uranium TV show for many years. And of course its Zakk Wylde, it really doesn't get more real, more Metal, in a classic way!"
If you attended the Uranium Tour, you know it was a "hit"! We really hope that it becomes a yearly tour!. After many attempts during the last year, we finally were able to sit down with Juliya to do an in-depth interview! Here it is:

Special thanks to Juliya, Nightcrawler Steve, Uranium and the staff at Irving Plaza!

What the deuce is she wearing? Bethanie Mattek-Sands plays at Wimbledon in another Lady Gaga-inspired outfit
By EMILY ANDREWS and GABBY MORGAN
©Ball girl: Bethanie Mattek-Sands wears an unusual bespoke outfit for her first match at Wimbledon today
A quick glance and you might have mistaken her for some sort of quirky pop star.
Not for nothing is Bethanie Mattek-Sands known as the Lady Gaga of tennis.
The American baffled fans as she stepped out on court yesterday in war paint and a white bomber jacket decorated with spray-painted white tennis balls chopped in half.
And when she removed her coat, the white dress she had on underneath appeared to have lost a sleeve.
©All white? The white fringed jacket was created by Lady Gaga's own fashion designers
The outfit complemented an armful of colourful tattoos, socks pulled up to the knees and the face paint. The 26-year-old claimed that was actually a couple of anti-glare patches.
Miss Mattek-Sands had already turned heads with an equally bizarre tennis ball outfit at a pre-Wimbledon party last week, which was designed by one of Lady Gaga's own dressers.
©Ball-girl: Mattek-Sands arrives for her match against Japan's Misaki Doi
British designer Alex Noble had again been commissioned for yesterday's outfit.
Unfortunately for Miss Mattek-Sands, it failed to inspire her to victory.
Despite going into the match as the firm favourite and 30th seed, she lost in three sets to Japan's Misaki Doi. And her decorum appeared to desert her as she refused to shake the umpire's hand at the end.
The tongue-in-cheek number is just another example of how players are working around the rules to make fashion more prominent on court.
©Skin art: The tennis player shows off her tattoos in a one-shouldered top
On Monday, Venus Williams wore a Greek-inspired romper suit by her own brand Eleven. And high-end label Ralph Lauren have designed new uniforms for the ball-boys.
Mattek-Sands said last month: 'I don't think I can really challenge the colour rule right now. You know, I got to figure something out. Obviously the white, you got to work with a lot of the cuts.
'Obviously I'll be wearing my high socks. But yeah, it's always challenging to think of new things for Wimbledon.

Racy Katie: Katie Holmes left a Miami restaurant today in a white crochet top which exposed her black bra
She is known to keep her wardrobe on the conservative side with her array of sophisticated dresses and covered-up comfortable casualwear.
But in a daring turn, Katie Holmes stepped out today in a white crochet top, which exposed her black bra.
The 32-year-old sported the uncharacteristic risqué look as she left a restaurant in Miami.
The actress had clearly gone for a relaxed look, paring the vest with some white floaty trousers and embellished sandals.
Toting a cup of coffee, she topped off the look with a fedora hat, black wayfarers and a make-up free complexion.
Katie has been getting into Miami style with her array of beachwear.
On the weekend, Katie showed off her slimmed-down physique in a bikini as she played with five-year-old daughter Suri on Miami beach.
Mother and daughter are together at the seaside town in Florida where Tom Cruise, 48, is filming Rock of Ages.
©Beachy keen: The actress had clearly gone for a relaxed look, paring the risqué vest with some white floaty trousers and embellished sandals
Katie wore a red bikini and pink denim shorts while Suri was fully clothed in a multi-coloured dress.
The family were also spotted celebrating Father's Day in Miami on Sunday where Katie and Suri were pictured strolling with Cruise and then boarding a boat.
The close-knit trio were seen around the marina together in casual weekend wear.
Katie carried Suri in her arms, as always, to the luxury yacht which they hopped on for their afternoon cruise.
©Accessorising: Toting a cup of coffee, she topped off the look with a fedora hat, black wayfarers and a make-up free complexion
After they boarded the yacht, named Marquis, Katie and Suri sat on the deck while Cruise kept cool inside as they sailed out to sea.
The couple have been the butt of break-up rumours pretty much from as soon as they got together six years ago.
But the loved-up twosome showed that their relationship is stronger than ever and were very touchy-feely at an event in Miami Beach later in the weekend.
©Making waves: On the weekend, Katie showed off her slimmed-down physique in a bikini as she played with five-year-old daughter Suri on Miami beach
Katie lovingly grabbed her husband of nearly five years from behind and Cruise reciprocated, resting his hand over hers in a sweet gesture.
The couple turned up the Miami heat during a night out with the cast members from Rock of Ages including Julianne Hough and Malin Akerman.
They cosied up at Larios Cuban style bongo club and seemed to enjoy their date night in the Sunshine State.
©Beach babes: Katie keeps close to her daughter Suri as they play in the water
Cruise is undergoing an amazing transformation to play long-haired, tattooed rocker Jaxx in the film, which is due for release next year.
Also starring Russell Brand, it tells the story of a girl who arrives in Hollywood at the height of the 1980s rock scene.
It's a very different role for Cruise, and Katie has given her backing to the career departure for her husband by revealing that he likes to perform at their home.
'Tom is such an amazing performer. Yes, we have music in our house and it’s amazing,' she told Access Hollywood.

  • Old is the New New: Making Wood Work for Your Contemporary Pad

Old is the New New: Making Wood Work for Your Contemporary Pad
    Wood materials

A decade or so ago it would have been absolutely unheard of to see timber lining the external walls of a modern architect's latest creation. After all, wood was a material that had been replaced many moons ago and was only found on rotting barns... right?

Like absolutely everything in construction, materials have the habit of forming a full circle. Timber was once the only material used, before technology allowed bricks and all sorts of other alternatives to replace it. Now, contemporary builders are turning to wood again with many under the impression that it releases an ultra-stylish appearance. Additionally, there is also the matter of sustainability and in a bid to stay on the green side, it goes without saying that timber performs much better than bricks and other products.

Therefore, wood is in fashion. It might not be found on your latest set of Wimpy houses, but take to any contemporary street and you'll see plenty of it. If you're looking to replicate the effects of the material, read on and find out what considerations need to be made to make the most of timber and create another wood-cladded sensation...

Which type of wood will you be using?

This question could be rephrased; 'how much is your budget?'. A lot of the time, you won't have much say in the type of wood that you opt for and money really does talk when it comes to choosing a timber.

Fortunately, there are plenty of varieties out there that have been deemed suitable to be used on outside walls. One might not be surprised to read that the likes of oak and chestnut are some of the most expensive options, but naturally provide the highest-quality finish. Down the scale we have cedar and larch, which are classed as softwoods but have the durability factor which makes them the market favourites. Then, at the bottom of the ladder we have pine and as well as holding the most basic appearance, this has the uncanny knack of deteriorating the quickest.

This means there is plenty of food for thought. While you might love the appearance of pine (and trust us, you'll probably be in the minority), you've also got to realise that it will come under a lot of stress and need replacing at shorter intervals than initially more expensive options.

How will the wood be implemented?

We don't need to tell you how many advanced cladding techniques there are now available, you just need to take a look around here and see all of the different materials and styles that can now be adopted.

As such, the world is your oyster when it comes to laying out your timber. It goes without saying that horizontal and vertical layouts are the most common, although don't be fooled into thinking that this is your limit. Some will opt for a diagonal approach, while others will overlap the timbers to create an embezzled effect.

Another misconception revolves around the size of the material. Even if you're buying the whole lot of timber in fixed sizes, don't be under the impression that you have to stick to them. They can be broken down into smaller pieces, although naturally this will involve increased labour costs for the fixing stage.

    Who will fix the material?

It would be fair to say that installing a cladded wall is somewhat different to building a brand new one out of bricks. You might think it looks easy - but we'd urge you to stop in your tracks. Wood is a material that can go drastically wrong; it can change shape, become affected by moisture amongst a whole host of other defects.

This means that during the installation phase, the adequate provisions have to be made. The battens in which the cladding is fixed to can’t be spaced too far apart, as this could result in the timber bending. In other areas, a weatherproof membrane is a necessity, while openings must be left between each element of cladding to allow for any seasonal movement.

The above paragraph really is the tip of the iceberg and it's not the sort of handbook you want to be taking to your own construction site. If any of the above sounds confusing, it's time to ditch the DIY job and take to the Yellow Pages.

What is the finished article going to look like?

And finally, what everyone has been waiting for - what is the cladded timber going to look like by the time it is in use as a fully functioning wall?

If you happen to have used an expensive hardwood, there's every chance that you'll be looking to keep things as natural as possible and you might not even have to take out your paintbrush to preserve the material.

However, as soon as the timber gets softer, it might be time to change the approach. Not only will you want to purchase some sort of product to tailor the appearance to your liking, but you'll also probably need a wood stain to protect your wood.

The preservation of cladding becomes even more important if your property sits in an exposed location, without much natural protection. With regular masonry walls your main worry is penetrating damp, but when it comes to cladding you've also got to work to ensure that you're not regularly tearing down the wall coverings every few years just because the timber wasn't preserved adequately.

And there we have it - the four considerations whilst putting together your modern wood-cladded dwelling. While it might seem a lot to take in, a lot of homeowners forget that one of the major benefits of cladding is that it can easily be changed. Admittedly, it’s still a relatively big job, but if you do want to freshen things up from time to time and can afford to purchase new timber, it’s undoubtedly possible and can provide a completely different image to your home.

I have my ironing board and iron always set up just across from the sewing table. I have been trying to come up with some more aesthetically pleasing solutions to my sewing area lately... like getting some kind of cabinet to store all the things that are on the table so i can get a smaller one, and using a table top iron instead. Then i can shut the cabinet and not have all the clutter.
    seving
All my fabric that is not in use or about to be in use is upstairs in my fabric closet. the shelf, rolling cart and three wire shelves in the back all have sewing stuff. I keep the shelf color coded and i keep bundles together that i know i am going to use together. The batting is on the floor in rolls and in a bucket in the corner of the closet...there are even several bags of hand-me-down fabric there that you can not see.
    seving
This bucket is under the sewing table...i usually keep the stuff that i am wanting to work with or stuff that is brand new in here so i can look at it once in awhile for ideas....and also as a reminder that i should get cracking on some of the things in there. Thanks for coming along on my messy little tour....i am looking forward to going over to Amandajean's and checking out some of the other work spaces out there.

The New York City Heavy Music Coallition
©On Saturday, June 18, 2011, history was written at Webster Hall (The Ritz) at the No Remission "Through Blackened Skies" record release show. When we arrived at the venue at 4 o'clock to conduct interviews for an upcoming DVD that showcases the state of the New York City Heavy Music scene, the sun was shining and everyone was really pumped about this very special night for the entire community. After chatting with some of the bands and with some key figures from the scene, it was time for Left In Ruins to do what they do best: deliver a crushing display of brutal Metal filled of very technical guitar parts and positive energy!
After grabbing a few beers and greeting the crowd, the surprise of the night took center stage. Arcane Malevolence performed a highly energetic set and got the pit initiated for the storm that was about to unravel at Webster Hall. After a few minutes of peace inside the pit, Alekhine's Gun melted everyone's faces with their furious flavor of Heavy Metal! Goddamn, these guys are getting good and sounding tighter and tighter. The sense of unity that this band possesses is a message that is transmitted to the pit army that stands strong whenever they step on a stage.
Closing this historical night was No Remission who presented New York City with their brand new album titled "Through Blackened Skies" (Click to read our album review), we had personally seen this band live and they impressed the hell out of our ears. The band not only possesses great stage presence and highly technical songs, but they play each song with balls and make the pit army lose their minds!
At the end of the night the dance floor had a lot of blood, sweat and tears, and a lot of happy people! What is going in New York City right now with Heavy Music is blood rushing and extremely exciting. We can't wait to see the DVD which will include every bands performance and plenty of interviews! Stay tuned horns up throwers!

A Pale Horse Named Death Listening Party at Idle Hands Bar
©On Thursday, May 25, our friends at Idle Hands Bar bring you the Official A Pale Horse Named Death listening party for their brand new album titled "And Hell Will Follow Me". Not only will the music be cranked and the drink specials will be poured to the masses, but the bands founder and front-man Mr. Sal Abruscato (Life of Agony) will be there to meet his fans. Here is the Official press release:
©"A PALE HORSE NAMED DEATH's debut album "And Hell Will Follow Me" is set to be released June 14th on SPV/Steamhammer. To celebrate the release of the album, the band will be hosting an exclusive listening party at Idle Hands Bar in New York, NY. Idle Hands is located at 25 Avenue B. The party is open to the public and members of APHND will of course be in attendance. Don't miss what is sure to be a killer event with drink specials and your chance to hear the new album before it hits stores."
    Here is the artist bio:
"A PALE HORSE NAMED DEATH is the brainchild of Brooklyn, NY native Sal Abruscato, and sounds like Alice in Chains mysteriously sneaking up behind Type O Negative with a butcher knife while being filmed for a future episode of "Law & Order". Critical acclaim has been quick upon the announcement of the album's June release.
Sal's partner in crime on "And Hell Will Follow Me" is Matt Brown, sound engineer extraordinaire and guitarist of fellow NY band SEVENTH VOID. "The chemistry between me and Matt is unique and flawless very rare in today's music. We are the murdering evil version of Lennon and McCartney." says Abruscato.
Brown adds, "Sal asked me if I would help to take these songs to the next level. I took on this project for my friend, to find some closure in rough times. The music is just an extension of our friendship and our passion for creativity."
©The album artwork was done by Sam Shearon aka Mr. Sam, who has previously done work for Rob Zombie, Fear Factory and Cradle of Filth to name a few, and features a 20 page booklet with artwork for each individual song. Additionally, the Double LP version will feature a never before heard bonus track called "Pick Up Truck".
To top that all off, Life of Agony's Keith Caputo lent background vocals to four tracks and Lou Reed's saxophonist Ulrich Krieger guests on "Die Alone". Bobby Hambel from Biohazard - who also plays with the band live - played the guitar leads on three tunes.
APHND is also a force to be reckoned with live, with shows and festivals already planned in both the U.S. and Europe. Alongside Sal, Matt and Bobby, the live line-up places Type O and Seventh Void drummer Johnny Kelly behind the kit, and Eric Morgan on bass.
"This is my pinnacle creation, the best album I have ever done." commented Sal. And after listening, most people are tending to agree."

Southern Europe: Sotheby’s auctions clay figurines 'from Amphipolis'
The interest around the ancient Greek tomb of Amphipolis may have decreased dramatically over the last months, however, the “brand name” created during the excavations and thanks to the mystery regarding the dead who were buried in Kasta hill, still manages to attract attention across Europe and the United States.

The experienced auction house Sotheby’s did not let the opportunity go to waste and around a week ago they put six clay figurines on sale. The figurines depict the ancient Greek god Attis, the adolescent consort of Kybele, who was self-castrated to escape her jealousy. The terracotta dates back to the 2nd century BC and according to the auction house, it originated from Amphipolis.

“This cannot be confirmed,” noted Greek Alternate Culture Minister Nikos Xydakis, on the occasion of the repatriation of the illegally exported Hermes statue head, which was set for sale by Bohnams. The alternate minister’s statement was confirmed by an experienced archaeologist, who believes that the figurines are not characteristic of Amphipolis and therefore there is no reason for their connection with the region.

Experts might not find any connection to the Amphipolis tomb, however, the fact that Sotherby’s sold the six terracotta figurines for $8,750 shows that the public is still fascinated by the discovery of the ancient Greek monument.
