Here's the quilt block I made for A Notion or two for myself. I had never made wonky log cabin squares before, so I went a bit crazy. Then it was like a puzzle as to how to piece them all together. And I embroidered a birdy. I haven't done much embroidery at all, so this was great practice. I think I can see more embroidery projects in the future.

I know the picture is a bit blurry, but I'm tired, so there, it looks better on Flickr for some reason.

A bag
This was my sewing summit swag bag. There is a contest to decorate it or repurpose it into another bag, just as long as it was still a bag. I decided to decorate mine.I used new and vintage fabrics, lace, rick rac, pom poms that I made, and some embroidery.I am excited with how it turned out and can't wait to use it.Plus it gave me a little break from the whirlwind of sewing that I have been doing for holiday shows, it felt nice to make something for myself :)Scrap Happy Table Runner tutorial
This was my submission for the So You Think Your Crafty Auditions. I didn't make the top ten so I won't be going on (I think I was 12). It was fun seeing all the other fun projects and finding new to me blogs! There was alot of fun projects submitted and I am excited to see what season 3 brings. Anyways, I took pictures while I was making it so here is a tutorial! Here is what you will need:
scraps of fabric, doilies, trim, really you could use anything that could be sewn down and would look cute. You will also need two pieces of your main fabric (I used a cream colored Kona cotton) and a piece of batting (I used warm and natural batting)
I cut my pieces about 37" by 13" but you can make any size you want.Once you have your two main fabric pieces and your batting cut, lay them down in this order: batting first, then your two main fabrics on top of that right sides together.
Then pin all your layers together so you can sew them together without them shifting. ( I know this part isn't fun, I hate pinning and avoid it unless I have to).
Then starting somewhere in the middle of a side, sew around the whole thing using a 1/4 inch seam, except you need to leave about a 3 or 4 inch hole so that you can turn it right side out.
like thisOnce you have sewn around the whole thing, clip the extra corner fabric tips off to make it easier to turn the corners out.
Then turn it right side out, I like to use a plastic chopstick I found at IKEA to help with the corners.
Once you get it right side out, take it to your ironing board and iron the whole thing, taking care to pay attention to that hole you left for turning and ironing that part in so you won't be able to tell where it was. Then, sew around the edge, again pay attention to the part where the hole was to make sure you get it sewn shut.
After I got that done I added pom pom trim to both my ends. (sorry for the picture quality, it started getting dark when i made this and I am too lazy to edit the pictures right now). After that I just layed down my bits of handkerchief and doilies down and then cut pieces of fabric to fit in the spaces that were left. I hope that makes sense.
Then I pinned them all down.
Now, take it to your sewing machine and sew all those bits down, (I left the edges of all my fabrics raw by the way, once it goes through the wash they will get a yummy frayed edge) I rolled the one end up so it would fit nicely in my sewing machine. Just be careful of the pins so you don't get poked ( I didn't get poked at all ) :)
And here's a tip, when I got one piece all sewed down, I didn't cut the thread, I just picked up the presser foot and moved over to another piece. Can you see the threads in the picture? Then after I got all the pieces sewn down I clipped all the threads.
Then I added bits of embroidery wherever I felt like it.
Then you are done and you have a happy table runner! The bride DID wear Chanel: The Lagerfeld dress Lily Allen wore to the reception
By LAUREN PAXMAN Evening gown: Lily Allen admires Lagerfeld's sketch and tries on her custom-designed Chanel dress, which she wore to the wedding reception
While Kate Middleton kept us guessing over her choice of wedding dress designer, Lily Allen's decision was all but confirmed months ago.
The singer hinted that Lagerfeld would be designing her gown while posing with him at Chanel's Paris Fashion Week show in March... and then confused everyone by wearing a Delphine Manivet dress down the aisle instead.
But there is a very logical explanation - like the Duchess of Cambridge, Lily had two wedding outfits, one for the ceremony and one for the reception.
The 26-year-old revealed all on her Twitter page after Lagerfeld uploaded an image of Lily wearing the white dress he had designed, along with a sketch of his creation.
The images were accompanied by a caption explaining that they were taken by Benoît Peverelli at a fitting in Chanel's Paris headquarters, 31 rue Cambon.
Fashion blogger Laura LaRue tweeted a link to Lagerfeld's picture saying: 'Confused? Me too.'Radiant bride: Lily, with husband Sam Cooper, in the Delphine Manivet dress she wore to her wedding ceremony, which also featured transparent sleeves and detailing on the bottom of the skirt and was designed to accommodate her baby bump
Lily wrote straight back, explaining: 'I wore my BEAUTIFUL Chanel dress to our reception.'
There are many similarities between the two dresses. Both had a transparent layer which went right up to the bride's neck.
The Delphine Manivet gown was lacy, and had a sweetheart neckline underneath, while the Chanel number featured beautiful floaty sleeves that were puffy to the elbow and then tight to the wrist.
It also had intricate embroidery on the bustier, and looks like it was semi-transparent below that.
Both gowns had additional detailing on the bottom half of the big skirts.
Manivet has revealed that her gown was intentionally designed to be roomy as Lily has been trying for a baby since January.
The singer's husband, Sam Cooper, announced his wife was four months pregnant on their wedding day - to gasps of joy from his guests.
We imagine there were similar exclamations of affectionate surprise when they laid eyes on the radiant bride in each of her stunning gowns.

The lost art of the hand written letter..........
Admittedly I don't write many letters myself but I do like to have paper handy when inspiration strikes and I also have recently started a journal for writing down inspirational quotes etc... so I think I need to make one of these compendiums for myself. This one is now for sale here in my Etsy shop and also here in my Felt shop.No I'm not going to write a post on how we rarely hand write letters any more but it is something that we see less and less of which I think is a little sad since how special do we feel when we receive even just a handwritten note. Anyway with those thoughts in mind I designed this writing/journalling folder or "compendium" I think is the correct word for it. I used up some scraps of batiks leftover from the making of my 'Boho bag'. As you can see it has 2 pockets on the front for pens and closes with a fabric loop and handmade button (a miniature version of the button on the bag).
Inside it has 4 large pockets for storing paper, journals and pens, 2 single pen pockets and 2 pockets for cards.
Once again I used some African 'shwe shwe' fabrics for the inside. I really like the way these prints coordinate with the blue batiks plus the fact that they've been in my stash for a while now and it feels good to finally find the perfect items to use them in.
Just like the 'Boho bag' it is embellished on the outside with a variety of machine embroidery stitches....
