    Sew and Tell Friday

How does a week sneak up on one so fast? I have been a day behind all week, and nearly forgot that today was sew and tell. I had this in the works so i just got to sewing like crazy so that i could share this top with you all. I see a color trend in my life. The rooms in my house are blue and green...furniture...and the fabric colors i gravitate to are usually in the green and blue family somewhere. I wonder what a color says about someone?

My friend Deb, at Works in Progress, has been holding a charm square quilt a long. I was in!!!! What do you think Deb? She made a christmas charm quilt...so pretty. I really enjoy how diverse quilting can be and how different each persons quilt can be just because of the color and fabrics they use even when we use the same pattern.

    seving
I used a snippets charm pack and some other vintage reproduction fabrics that i had in my stash to get the total squares from 40 to 48...what Deb's pattern called for. I had to improvise in a lot of places on this one because i did not have enough of any one fabric, typical. I really really did not want to go to the store and buy more, so i just made do.

Today is sew and tell...good news Amylouwho is going to continue this through the summer with a little help...our motivation will carry on! Head on over and see all the other pretty's that are being shared. You are going to love everything. I am sure of it.

    School Table Topper
    seving
I made this little table topper last week. I used a charm pack of Momma's Apron Strings fabric. The colors are so pretty and the gingham's and fruit were so fun. I love how a charm pack makes the process so much faster. I was able to get from sewn to quilting this in one day. I used some of my other favorites for backing and binding, because if i love them i am realizing i should use them. So the biding is a yellow and white ladybug print from Flutterby and the back is some leftover Wee Play floral in green that i had from another project. I was inspired by Rita and her beautiful straight line quilting so i tried one of her methods and it turned out great. I think i am discovering that stippling might not be for me, straight is so much less frustrating. The quilting mirrors the gingham's in the fabric. It was a pretty gloomy dark day outside so the light and color is not quite right...but it can't be sunny every day.

    Kitchen Room

    French Provencal Style

Design of a kitchen room in the French style — the fine decision for the romantic ladies. This tendency takes a predominating place among all fashionable trends of interiors, thanks to the grace and unique charm.

    The Kitchen Tendencies

Provencal style is a reflection of an aesthetics of the south of France. The 1st in such design — a whitewash. Bleached ceilings and walls — some kind of the standard of Provencal style.

    Provencal Style

Provencal style welcomes all home decoration with olden time touch. The new kitchen furniture can be made old a little: small cracks, scratches will give it charm.

Do not forget about the furnace! A decorative mantelpiece — an important component part in Provencal style of kitchen room. Do not forget about jugs, vessels and small vases with artificial or natural flowers.

    The Kitchen Furniture

Besides it, in antique shops you can find set of original additions which will give to your interior the finished sort. Also it's necessary to give great attention to a choice of blinds and curtains.

This is my WIP(work in progress). It is laying all over my dining room floor waiting to be complete....i think i will do some better pictures once i have the whole top together. This has been in the making for awhile now. I am a craft/quilt procrastinator. Whenever i get to a hard part or a problem I am more likely to put it down than finish, even though i know if i take it step by step and power through it I can get it done. Right now, i am at a hard part. I am having to undo several sections to re sew them. Not because i made a mistake but because i need all the parts to fit together better to make a nicer shaped top. There are many projects on my sewing table like this. Maybe it is time to stop procrastinating and just get them all done, before i am tempted to start something new....again!

**for anyone that might be interested, this is called a disappearing nine patch quilt. I got the pattern here. It was very helpful. The fabric i used was American Jane Look and Learn. I bought 4 charm packs and randomly assembled.**

  • Tuesday's Choice...a Fabric Audition

    Tuesday's Choice...a Fabric Audition
I just can not make up my mind today about what fabric to use for a new project.

We are getting ready to go on vacation where i obviously will not have my machine to sew with but there is some down time and plenty of car time so i thought maybe hand sewing would be the answer.

Erin at Why Not Sew recently hand a hand sewing sampler series!!! I knew this was the one for me. It has been calling me.

    seving

But what fabric do i choose? I auditioned several sets for my husband(he is very indulgent) and he was leaning mostly to the primary colors...not the lavender or greens. Me...I am still not sure.

However i have these gorgeous bundles of FMF that are just sitting waiting to be used for something amazing. Is this it? Is this that amazing thing?

What do you think? Do i go for it and use the coveted, most beautiful fabrics? Will i regret it when i find something else i wish i did with them or do i just do it and know that i will love how this sampler is going to turn out(Erin used the FMF so i already have a preview)?

What to do!!! What to do???

    seving

In the meantime....here is something pretty that came in my mail. Don't you love fabric mail? I saw these Coquette charm packs on sale and scooped up a couple. It is very girly fabric...and i love the lavender in it. Who knows what is in store for these.

    Sew and Tell Friday
Seems like everywhere i turn in blogland lately there are pretty pillows , pretty pillows and more pretty pillows!!!

    seving
I had been thinking about making a few of my own for a while now...but seeing all the others out there i got inspired this week to start making and stop reading.
    seving
Like all great projects this one took on a life of its own. i started it not really knowing what i wanted to do, but as i went through my stash i found some Recess charm squares left over from a old quilt project, and i got to thinking. Then it struck me...i had a pile of other mixed amounts of American Jane fabrics...why not mix them all together and see what happens.
    seving
As it stands the inner blocks of the pillows are sized the same but done each in a different design. The first two of the planned four are just a simple 9 patch...and a wonky star. I used the tutorial at sillboodilly for the star. I have the other two still in the planning phase...i intend for those to be a disappearing 9 patch and some kind of improv block. I am also quilting them all differently.
    seving
I was able to speed up the finish by making a envelope back out of an old curtain. It already had finished edges so i saved myself a step. Go on over to Amylouwho's and see all the other amazing finishes from this week.

  • Quilts, quilts, and more quilts!

    Quilts, quilts, and more quilts!
Sewing I finished piecing this quilt top last night. This was a mystery quilt from the Patchwork Posse group I am a member of. As I was working on this quilt I wasn't sure if I was going to like it. I am glad I finished it, it challenged me to do something I wouldn't normally choose to do, and I am absolutely in love with it, like big time in love! Plus look, it matches the outside of my house :)

SewingI won a charm pack of Moda Oz from the same Patchwork Posse group and I immediately sewed them into a baby quilt. Which is now ready to be quilted, I think I am going to tackle that today. Why can't all quilts be as easy as baby quilts?

  • An emotional Lady Gaga wipes away tears as she remembers Japanese earthquake victims

An emotional Lady Gaga wipes away tears as she remembers Japanese earthquake victims
    By GEORGINA LITTLEJOHN
©Compassion: Lady Gaga wipes away her tears as she remembers the victims of the Japanese earthquake at a press conference in Tokyo today
She donated more than £1million out of her own pocket towards relief efforts after the Japanese earthquake and another £500,000 from sales of her charity bracelet.
So it was no surprise to see the Lady Gaga compassionately shed a tear for the victims of the disaster which devastated the country in March.
The singer was at a press conference in Tokyo today to promote the MTV Video Music Awards Japan.
©Choked up: The tears falling down her face, Gaga struggles to compose herself
She will be performing at the awards, which take place on Saturday, which have been renamed Video Music Aid Japan and will raise money for the Japanese Red Cross.
Today Gaga broke down as she spoke about her love for the country.
She said: 'I am always so inspired when I come to Japan, inspired by the spirit, the passion, the love, the absolutely infectious joy of Tokyo.'
©Hello, Tokyo: Gaga arrived at the press conference in her new aquamarine wig and black Aladdin pants
And she encouraged people from all over the world to visit the country, which has seen a huge plunge in tourism since the disaster, the nation's biggest recorded earthquake struck.
It created a tsunami that caused widespread destruction and set off a crisis at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant about 140 miles (220 kilometers) north of Tokyo.
It killed almost 20,000 people, tens of thousands more were left homeless and thousands of others were forced to leave homes near the plant because of the radiation danger.
    ©
Please visit: Gaga urged tourists to come to Japan declaring it 'beautiful' and 'safe'
Wearing a long aquamarine wig, she said: 'I can't say enough to people all over the world that the majority of Japan right now, Japan in general, is very safe. It's fine to come here. It's beautiful.
'The most important thing, and the best thing, we could do for Japan right now is to boost tourism.
'I would like to use my position here today and all week long to run around Tokyo enjoy the beautiful city and kiss all the beautiful little monsters and scream at the top of my lungs that everyone should come visit this beautiful place.'
©Thirsty work: Gaga sipped from a china tea cup which had Japanese characters that read 'Pray For Japan' across it
©For luck: The singer kisses an Okiagari-Koboshi, a traditional Japanese doll
During the press conference, she sipped tea from a china cup that was painted with Japanese characters that read 'We pray for Japan'.
She was also presented with an 'Okiagari-koboshi' - which means 'getting up little priest' - a Japanese traditional tumble doll that is considered a good-luck charm and a symbol of perseverance and resilience
GaGa arrived in Tokyo on Tuesday, days in advance of her performance on Saturday's Music Aid Japan benefit concert which will be broadcast live to an estimated 30 million households in Japan, Korea, Singapore and China.
©For her Little Monsters: Gaga stopped to sign autographs as she left a restaurant last night...
©... and kept her faithful followers happy as she stopped to greet fans at the airport
Last night she was bombarded by fans as she left Shabuzen, a popular restaurant that specialise in a common Japanese dish called Shabu-shabu, which is a Japanese hot pot, in the trendy night life area of Roppongi, in Tokyo.
But ever gracious to her 'Little Monsters', she happily stopped and signed autographs for them, just as she did when she arrived at Narita International Airport.
©Just put your paws up: Gaga gives her trademark claw-hand sign and then waves to her fans as she heads out of the airport
