First of all, civil marriages are performed every day to straight people without a priest, imam or Xenu. There are no laws that require, like say, a rabbi to marry a couple who are not Jewish. No priest will marry a couple who are not Catholic. Nobody is forcing them. So what is different about gay people who want a civil marriage?
